Warhog
The Dystopian Chronicles Vol. 2
Out: November 18th, 2024
Playing time: 22:25

It’s not even half a year since Warhog released the EP ‘The Dystopian Chronicles Vol. 1’. And recently ‘The Dystopian Chronicles Vol. 2’ was published. The Texans were already able to convince me with the first part. The influences of bands like Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath were clearly audible. So it goes without saying that I also listened closely to the follow-up.

The second part of ‘The Dystopian Chronicles’ starts without an intro. It starts straight away with ‘Eulogy’ – with a powerful bass and banging guitars. A quiet, doom-orientated song, although faster riffs can also be heard in the background. With a good but short guitar solo. Deep guitars introduce ‘Artificial Echoes’. This song is faster. The riffing drives the singer on. ‘Kill Or Die Trying’ offers a further increase in tempo. A very intense song, with spoken words and another great guitar solo. The album ends with the nine-and-a-half-minute epic ‘Lost Colony’. Acoustic guitars and synth strings dominate for long stretches. The vocals are also suitably calm. The drums boom along with it. This is the best song I’ve heard from Warhog so far.

With ‘The Dystopian Chronicles Vol. 2’, Warhog develop the sound of the first part further. This EP is more varied, more melodic and in places heavier than its predecessor. It will be interesting to see in which direction a probable third part of the dystopian chronicles will develop.
