Warzaw
Black Magic Satellite

The band name sounds like the Polish capital, but with an incorrect spelling. However, the musicians are based in Trondheim, Norway. Their debut album “Werewolves on Wheeles” was released at the beginning of last year. And like some other bands, Warzaw are now releasing their second album in only one year. Unfortunately, this press info didn’t provide any more information either. So let’s rather let the music speak.
Santa Mira” starts with a short guitar intro before the Norwegians really get going. Fast riffs, driving drums. What is immediately noticeable is that the production is more powerful than on the debut. And singer Daniel Rønning is once again convincing. Also “Fierce Attitude” moves in the tradition of NWoBHM. The riffs are fired off almost every second. The positive impression of the first two songs continues with “Send My Regards”, “Lightning From The Clear Sky” or “Circular Talk”. And the individual pieces definitely differ in speed, rhythm and melody. For example, “Machine Gun Fire” does honour to its name. Only the hymn-like “Shot Of Poison” sets a point of calm, whereby calm does not mean quiet here. For me, this is the best song on the album. With a sing-along chorus that should not fail to make an impact, especially live. But after that it goes on quickly. Whether “Pistols Of Dawn” or “Altar Of Pleasure”, these straightforward Rockers show the grown maturity of the band. Before the hymn “Sabres Of Flesh And Blood” offers the crowning finish.
What a progress within a few months. After the certainly not bad “Werewolves On Wheels”, the Norwegians clearly show here where the Heavy Metal hammer hangs. And the level has been set really high. This is now the second time that it looks like musicians have taken my criticism of the debut seriously. “Black Magic Satellite” is varied, musically and powerfully produced. With a great hit count. Only the cover is no less cheesy than on the predecessor. Instead of motorbikes, you can now see the quartet in an UFO.
