Wolfpack is the Belgian/German Metal duo Gio Smet and Jürgen Wulfes. The project was founded in mid-2021 and after a few singles, the EP “Alpha Wolf” was released in March this year. The number of physical CDs is limited to 100. According to the e-mail cover letter, listeners can expect Classic Hard Rock.

The EP starts with the title track “Alpha Wolf”. This is the finest 80s Heavy Metal. Dio and David Coverdale are mentioned as references for the vocals. I would also add Biff Byford. In the video for “Iron Heart” you can admire the masters themselves. Gio Smet can only be seen with his guitar, but he also plays the other instruments brilliantly. And the solos that he kicks out… Only the wolf howl in the video is missing in the EP version. “All In You” is a magnificent power ballad. Gio literally makes his guitar sing and Jürgen Wulfes also impresses vocally in the quiet range. The huge guitar solo takes them out of the ballad realm a little. “When Angels Die” is only slightly faster. It is mostly in the mid-tempo range. With heavy and rhythmic riffs. “I Bleed In Black” is the second ballad on the EP. A little quieter than “All In You”. But also not without the necessary Metallic heaviness.

Jürgen Wulfes and Gio Smet are two outstanding musicians who have found each other. The Metal sound the two of them have packed into their songs is simply insane. It makes you wish for a full-length album as soon as possible. And the songs are just crying out to be performed live.
