Two well-known musicians from the Rock and Metal scene have joined forces to form a new band. Singer Magali ‘Maggy’ Luyten (Ayreon, Beautiful Sin, The Prize, ex-Nightmare, Maiden uniteD) and guitarist Bas Maas (Doro, After Forever). With Rock Justice, they have dedicated themselves to Hard Rock and Metal.
The album brings together a variety of musical styles, united by a nostalgic atmosphere and polished production.
Bas Maas first came up with the idea back when he was still playing with After Forever. He hadn’t actually intended to have a female singer in the band, but Maggy’s voice “blow him away”. Their debut album, *You’ve Been Served*, is due for release in June and features a guest appearance by Doro.
Maggy Luyten has an absolutely incredible voice. On ‘My Worst Enemy’, she starts off singing quite low. Then her voice sounds powerful and slightly raspy. And Bas Maas showcases his brilliant guitar skills. Drums, guitar and Maggy’s spoken words introduce ‘Rocker’s Confession’. Later, Bas unleashes a storm of riffs on the listener and pushes the singer forward. Wonderful Blues Rock. In “You Know Better”, things really get going right from the start. The drummer sets the rhythm. Maggy’s vocals and Bas Maas on his guitar keep up with the tempo effortlessly. ‘I Just Wanna Make Love To You’ is then a bit calmer again, yet still powerful, with a strong Blues influence. The anthemic power ballad ‘The Rest Of The World’ is characterised by keyboards, grand guitar melodies and Maggy Luyten’s raw voice. With ‘Shape Up Or Ship Out’, things return to high-speed territory. Driven by the drums, the riffs just fly past your ears. The tempo stays high during the guitar solo too. Contrary to the announcement, ‘Chicks Can’t Rock’ really rocks out. A short but fine Rock’n’Roll song. Maggy was particularly delighted about her vocal partner on the Metal anthem “First In Line”. After all, Doro Pesch is already a Rock and Metal legend in her own right. With her unique voice, she elevates the closing track.
Two great Rock musicians have searched for and found one another. Thanks to the collaboration between Maggy Luyten and Bas Maas, a true Rock and Metal masterpiece has been created. ‘You’ve Been Served’ is a real pleasure to listen to throughout its running time of (just) over thirty minutes. However, it would be unfair to their bandmates Nick McGrath on bass and Mischa Aussems on the battery not to give them a mention as well. Both contribute significantly to the album’s rich sound.
