I have known female Rock vocalist VK Lynne for many years and have met her several times at the Metal Female Voices Fest in Wieze, Belgium. I must admit that I appreciate the unique, slightly smoky voice of this singer who lives in North Hollywood. She already has a long and varied career behind her, both as a solo artist and in bands and projects such as Vita Nova, stOrk and The Spider Accomplice. She ended the latter two years ago. This was followed by the solo album ‘The Spider Queen’. Now the next chapter is beginning. Together with guitarist David Ruiz, she has been working on a new project for some time. In the meantime, the project has become a permanent five-piece band. Sapient Scar are a Melodic Rock/Metal band from Los Angeles. The first singles are gradually being released, with two so far, one in September and one in October this year.

‘Weak Is The Weapon’ is a very rock-oriented song, yet very melodic. Strong guitar work, both in the hard riffs and in the hook lines and solos. Accentuated and rhythmic drumming and booming bass provide the rhythmic underpinning. The whole thing is refined, of course, by VK’s vocals. In ‘Pay Forever’, the musicians take a much calmer approach. A great power ballad. Subtle riffs and a highly melodic guitar solo accompany the vocals, which sometimes sound fragile and sometimes powerful.

In my opinion, VK Lynne is one of the best female Rock singers with her extremely versatile voice. And her fellow musicians put her in the spotlight in an impressive way. Oh yes, I would love to hear more of this. When I asked, VK assured me that a first EP is being planned. But the musicians will take all the time they need to produce a good one.
