Tapeworm Electric were founded in Athens in 2018. The EP ‘Fire’ was released the following year. This featured powerful melodic heavy rock. The band was able to build up a fan base in their home country due to their energetic live performances. In the meantime, a record deal has been signed with the label Pitch Black Records. This means that nothing stands in the way of the debut album ‘Moonshine’.

An “Interlude” as the opening track of an album? There are some strange things in Rock/Metal. This intro sounds more like Folk Rock than the advertised Heavy Rock. This only follows in the first regular song ‘Moonshine’, which also gave the album its name. Oh yes, I was expecting exactly this hard rhythmic guitar sound. And in addition this smoky and blues-soaked voice of Argyro Igkilizian. The raging guitar solo is the icing on the cake. ‘Butterfly’ sounds much more melodic. But it is also driven by guitars. A Hammond wafts in the background. The catchy refrain is easy to sing along to. ‘Out Of Luck’ is less fast, but no less guitar-heavy. Argyro’s vocals really come into their own on this mid-tempo Rhythm and Blues song. This woman really has a golden throat. ‘Already Left’ is introduced by the drums before the guitars take the lead in the mid-tempo range. ‘Right Reasons’ has a strong tendency towards Southern Rock. Bassist George Kasapidis can be heard here as Argyro Igkilizian’s vocal partner. And what a strong guitar solo! An absolute highlight of the album. ‘Touch The Clouds’ is where the party starts again. Drummer Antonis Michalakopoulos spurs his fellow musicians on. ‘Turn Into Black’ is then catchier and more melodic again. A beautiful guitar melody can be heard. And again the Hammond. George Kasapidis once again contributes the vocals. A very harmonious duet together with Argyro Igkilizian. On ‘Loosen Up’, Argyro again takes over the main vocal part, but is actively supported by George Kasapidis. Another highlight follows at the very end with the epic ballad ‘Hold On’. With a huge guitar solo.

The album ‘Moonshine’ never gets boring, even if you listen to it often. As already written, the press release speaks of Melodic Heavy Rock. I would like to go a little further out on a limb and categorise the album as Heavy Southern Rock. For me, Tapeworm Electric are one of THE new discoveries of the year 2025. What sounds out of the speakers here is very mature. The album was recorded by outstanding musicians. But ultimately Argyro Igkilizian puts her vocal stamp on the sound.
