Los Angeles-based post-punk outfit The Discussion, the brainchild of Laura Pleasants (KYLESA), releases “All The Pretty Flowers”, out now via Artoffact Records.
Warm cold dark light ~ This is the solo project and vision of Laura Pleasants, previously known for her work with the indie metal / psych rock band KYLESA. Fresh out of the studio with producer JASON CORBETT of the band ACTORS, Laura takes her love and roots of New Wave, Post-Punk, and Goth to the forefront with The Discussion for 2024. You can hear her pulling from the likes of Siouxsie and the Banshees, Blondie, The Cure, and Asylum Party while weaving in elements of Kraut Rock classics such as Neu! and Harmonia, as well as shoegaze heroes My Bloody Valentine, Loop, and Slowdive.
LISTEN TO “ALL THE PRETTY FLOWERS” HERE
The album unfolds like a shadowed dreamscape—introspective, minimalist, and emotionally raw. Each track serves as a chapter in a larger meditation on isolation, longing, and the fragile tension between life and loss. From the synthetic lullaby of “Get To You” to the trance-washed melancholy of “Blue Light,” and culminating in the stark ritualism of “In Death and Life,” the album weaves a sonic thread of ambient textures, slow-burning rhythms, and lyrical mantras that haunt long after the music fades. It’s a body of work that doesn’t just explore solitude—it inhabits it, echoing the quiet violence and quiet beauty of simply continuing to exist.
