“BLUE LIGHT” OUT NOW – LISTEN HERE
Los Angeles-based post-punk outfit The Discussion, the brainchild of Laura Pleasants (KYLESA), continues its run of hypnotic, noir-tinged singles with “Blue Light”, out now via streaming services. Produced by Jason Corbett (ACTORS), this latest entry in the band’s waterfall release strategy builds on the atmospheric world established by previous tracks “In The Mirror” and “Fade Away”—both of which have cemented Pleasants’ pivot into shadowy New Wave and gothic dreamscapes.
Cold synthetic pulses. Glowing neon isolation. “Blue Light” is a slow-burn, trance-inducing transmission from the in-between, where Pleasants’ vocal delivery takes on a ghostly detachment, floating over the track’s metallic textures and hypnotic rhythms. Like a spectral echo of Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, and Asylum Party, the track feels like a transmission from the other side—electric, vaporous, and unsettlingly intimate. The chorus repeats like a flickering neon sign on an empty boulevard: “I’m here in the blue light.”
Following the eerie mood of “Fade Away”, and the more kinetic urgency of “In The Mirror”, “Blue Light” doubles down on The Discussion’s atmospheric storytelling—this time in a meditative spiral that feels equally suited for dim-lit clubs and solitary late-night drives. The production from Jason Corbett leans into synthetic textures, crafting a sound that feels like it could dissolve into mist at any moment.
With more singles on the way and a relentless touring schedule planned for 2025, The Discussion is building something bigger than just a series of releases—it’s a growing, immersive sonic world. Step inside.
