The Power Metal band Torian hails from Paderborn and was formed in 2002. A year later, they released the three-track demo ‘Into the Winter’. Their debut album, ‘Dreams Under Ice’, was released in 2005. Three further studio albums and an EP followed. However, almost eight years have now passed since their last release, ‘God of Storms’.  This year (2018), they also performed live at the Ram It Down Label Night. In May, their long-awaited fifth album, ‘The Lost Legion Rising’, will be released on Massacre Records. Alexander Thielmann (Room 14 Studio) and Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann (Orden Ogan) are responsible for production and mastering. So, we can certainly expect a high-quality result. What is particularly impressive, however, is the stability of Torian’s line-up. The musicians have been playing together since 2005!

Right from the start of ‘Soul Vampires’, the riffs push forward relentlessly. Vocally, singer Marc Hohlweck keeps up with this pace with ease. The band also maintains a fast pace on ‘Silver Demons’. The guitar melodies are particularly impressive here. ‘Flame Of Resistance’ then follows with a slight increase in tempo. Driven by the drums and guitars, the singer is spurred on to peak performance. This is accompanied by an extremely powerful guitar solo. ‘Warpriest’ follows as an impressive Metal anthem, complete with ‘Hail-Hail-Hail’ chants. And the next (battle) anthem follows hot on its heels. ‘Iron Hammer’ is very rhythmic, featuring brilliant sing-along choruses. The intro, with its various sound effects, offers a brief respite with ‘Sons Of The Damned’. After an anthemic interlude, Torian switches back to high-speed mode. Later on, epic choruses can be heard. ‘Lost Legion’ begins ballad-like with piano sounds, before the next Power Metal anthem kicks in. Given the song title ‘Sent To Hell’, it’s hardly surprising that things really take off again. Once again, drummer Manuel Gonstalla drives his bandmates on. With ‘Stand As One’, here it comes: the bombastic Power Metal ballad. To round off the regular track list, ‘Katharsis’ really lets rip once more. The bonus track ‘Devilon’ is reserved for those who buy the CD. And this Power Metal cracker packs a real punch too.

With “The Lost Legion Rising”, Torian have clearly surpassed the quality of their previous album. The band clearly demonstrate that they haven’t lost their touch during a break of eight years. Torian have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in German Power Metal.
