Toronto, ON – On September 9, 2025, Toronto indie-pop/rock artist Carmen Toth releases Time Bomb Heart, a dynamic reinterpretation of a track originally recorded by her producer and drummer Joel Wasson’s band, The Discarded. With a Stevie Nicks-meets-Kate Bush vocal approach, Toth transforms the song into a fierce yet intimate anthem that blurs the lines between heartbreak and healing.

Originally inspired by a friend’s open-heart surgery, Time Bomb Heart carries a double meaning, equally resonating as a breakup ballad reimagined as a vibrant, danceable rock track. “For me, it’s about a literal and figurative broken heart, and the sense of starting over,” says Toth. “For such a serious topic, it’s upbeat, driving, and really fun to play live.”

Toth’s version stays true to the original key, allowing her to showcase her lower vocal register, while soaring harmonies and octave-jumping backing vocals add drama and depth. “Joel was actually worried I wouldn’t be able to sing that high for the backing parts, but it felt oddly comfortable,” she recalls. “I really channeled Stevie Nicks for the lead vocal and Kate Bush for the backing parts, and we were so happy with how it turned out.”

Paired with the B-side L-Bomb – another track that explores emotional volatility and poetic tension – Time Bomb Heart highlights Toth’s growth since her 2018 EP Safety Net. The new single also signals a bold chapter for her forthcoming full-length album Fix the World, due October 7, 2025, a record that examines themes of femininity, rebellion, and transformation through lush instrumentation and unapologetic lyricism.

Backed by a band of seasoned indie rockers – including Wasson (The Discarded, Fifth Column) on drums, Drew Atkins on bass, and Michael McKenzie (Lowest of the Low) on lead and additional guitars – Toth’s rhythmic electric guitar chops and powerful storytelling take center stage. The result is a commanding and seductive take on a song she first fell in love with in 2019: “I knew as soon as I heard it that it was special, and I wanted to make it my own.”

Carmen Toth is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter known for her hook-driven power pop, heartfelt storytelling, and retro-influenced sound. Drawing inspiration from artists like Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush, Cyndi Lauper, and Sheryl Crow, her music blends vulnerability with classic pop-rock grit.

Over the past two decades, Toth has evolved from solo acoustic sets and her early duo Social Potion into a fully realized indie artist, performing in both band and solo formats and building a loyal following through regular livestreaming. Her 2018 EP Safety Net, produced by Derek Downham, marked a shift toward a modern pop sensibility.

In 2020, Toth began work on her most ambitious project to date – Fix the World, an 11-song album co-produced with Joel Wasson and John Critchley (13 Engines). Featuring performances from members of The Discarded, Lowest of the Low, and Ace of Wands, the album captures Carmen’s growth as a guitarist and vocalist and cements her identity as a powerful voice in Canada’s indie rock and pop landscape.
