J.P Krom is a Chilean writer, composer, singer and guitarist (a stage name taken from Conan the Barbarian comics) who has created his own musical style, a mystical blend of astrological and esoteric concepts, full of metaphors overlaid with the sounds and structures of GothicDark and Pagan Metal, which are further enhanced with stunning visuals.

Among his many influences, the musician also incorporates symphonic, experimental and even electronic elements, creating “Astrometal”, the musical style that gives his third release its title set to be released this September as a six-track EP.

Released on all digital platforms on August 17th, “Luna Plutón” is the first single and (beautiful) music video taken from the forthcoming new album.

“It is a modern sound for a not so modern composition, because it was composed more than six years ago with a different tempo and different arrangements (laughs). I was inspired by the esoteric and mystical side of the Roman mythology of the goddess Diana/Moon mixed with the Greek god Pluto/Hades”, said the veteran musician, who opened shows for the Portuguese band Moonspell in his hometown of Santiago, Chile, where the band premiered “Luna Plutón” live.

About the song, J.P. Krom comments: “Luna Plutón tells us about dark family secrets, kept in the dark of our minds. Secrets we all have, and some know and they use them to manipulate, generating resentment and an obsession with these emotions fixed in the deep. It seems that nothing can purge our blame, that most of the time we try to deny.”

“Astrometal” will bring six intense, deep and powerful tracks as true dark and esoteric journeys that are an obvious evolution of their previous works, “The Inner Gods” (album/2017) and “Yod” (EP/2021), both acclaimed by metal publications in South America, North America and Europe. And speaking of Europe, the band is about to announce that they will be playing at some of the biggest festivals in Germany and the Netherlands!

Besides J.P. Krom (vocals/guitars), the band consists of Reynaldo Catalán (bass), Braulio Morales (keyboards) and Franco Mitchell (drums).

MORE INFORMATION:

A self-described like “son of Poseidon”, J.P. Krom studied music and during this time he became heavily involved with many works by renowned classical composers. His first influences within rock and metal were Slayer, Dream Theater, Guns N’ Roses and Sepultura, but it was his great interest in the esoteric and mystical that led him to the darker, more theatrical and effervescent side of bands such as Type O’ Negative (especially the classic albums “Bloody Kisses” and “October Rust”), Moonspell, Paradise Lost and The 69 Eyes, the final ingredients for his true metal alchemy.

J.P. Krom tells us how his interest in the esoteric and mystical came about: “After receiving an astrological chart from a pagan lady, I decided to delve into the irresistible concept of esotericism, astrology and the power of the signs. For kings and powerful men, a birth chart serves to see and predict the future, but for me it is a tool for self-knowledge that is easily understood at the moment we human beings are born”.
