RELEASE NEW SINGLE “WANNABE ROCKSTAR”
The Swedish four-piece brings a dirtier, street-rock edge into the mix with the first single from the upcoming EP “Wake Up Dead”
Wasted Wizards are back with “Wannabe Rockstar”, the first single taken from their forthcoming EP Wake Up Dead, and a song that finds the young Swedish band leaning into a rougher and more streetwise side of its hard rock sound.

The ingredients will feel familiar to anyone who has followed the band so far: big guitars, strong melodies and a clear affection for the Hard Rock Wasted Wizards grew up with. This time, though, there is more dirt under the fingernails. Alongside the Van Halen and Extreme influence already present in their music, “Wannabe Rockstar” carries some of the swagger and sleaze associated with Hardcore Superstar, Mötley Crüe and that whole strain of Rock built for clubs, loud amplifiers and late nights.
Sam Mårtensson once again gets plenty of room to work on guitar, moving between tight rhythm parts and more flamboyant lead playing without turning the song into an exercise in technique. Leo Mårtensson’s vocals carry the right amount of attitude, while Alvin Hilmersson and John Danielsson give the track much of its character underneath, with a bass line that swings and drums that keep the whole thing firmly on the move.
That chemistry is becoming increasingly important to Wasted Wizards. The references are still easy to spot and the band has never tried to hide them, but each release is beginning to show more clearly what happens when those influences are filtered through four young musicians who have spent a lot of time playing together.
The progress has also come from the stage. Wasted Wizards recently completed a run of Swedish dates, also opening for Eclipse, an experience that gave the band the chance to play in front of larger audiences night after night. They are now preparing for their own headline shows in Sweden, while festival appearances in Sweden and UK are already on the calendar.
With “Wannabe Rockstar”, Wasted Wizards also open the first chapter of Wake Up Dead, the EP that will offer the next proper snapshot of where the band is heading after a steady run of singles and months spent developing both in the rehearsal room and on stage.
Rather than smoothing off the edges, the band seems increasingly comfortable leaving some of them intact. “Wannabe Rockstar” is loud, loose in the right places and carries the sort of attitude that made them pick up instruments in the first place.
And as the first taste of Wake Up Dead, it suggests there is plenty more coming.
