The Power Metal band Frozen Land, hailing from Helsinki, was founded in 2017. Currently, only singer Tony Meloni and guitarist Tuomas Hirvonen remain. Otherwise, the line-up has obviously changed dramatically. All other positions had to be refilled, some of them several times. Nevertheless, two studio albums have been released so far. And ‘Icemelter’ will follow in November. In the press release, it reads as follows:

On “Icemelter”, FROZEN LAND push into their most aggressive territory to date, fusing unusually brutal, steel-edged guitar work with soaring, classic power-metal vocals and widescreen atmospheres.

The songs were written by the guitarist. Matias Kupiainen (Stratovarius) mixed the album. The cover artwork was designed by Andrey Vasilchenko.

With ‘The Carrier’, the Finns set a fast-paced beat right from the start. And that’s in the truest sense of the word. Drummer Matias Rokio literally drives his bandmates forward. This results in incredibly fast guitar runs. The guitar and keyboard solos are also characterized by their high tempo. However, singer Tony Meloni can easily keep up with his powerful voice. And he also belts out the one or other high scream. ‘Dead End’ starts with calm, clean guitars and a keyboard carpet. Then the tempo picks up but doesn’t reach the level of the opener. Here, there is clearly more emphasis on melody, despite all the hard riffs and Double Bass parts. Tony Meloni once again shows that he masters the changes between Rock voice and high screams with ease and doesn’t shy away from growls either. ‘Dream Away’ doesn’t really invite you to dream, but we hear a strong Metal anthem here, with a sing-along chorus. With ‘Chosen, Corrupt And Cancerous’, the extensive Double Bass and galloping Guitar riffs switch back to high-speed mode, without neglecting the melodies. And the constant tempo changes continue. In ‘Losing My Mind’, even within the song itself. The title track ‘Icemelter’ really does melt the ice. After a fast intro, we hear another Metal anthem with a great guitar solo. Fast tempo, driving drums and rapid riffing characterise ‘Haunted’. The closing track ‘Black Domina’ is another fast-paced Power Metal anthem.

On ‘Icemelter’, Frozen Land takes no prisoners. The Finns don’t give themselves or the listener any time for a breather. However, what we hear is not just mindless noise. Great importance is attached to varied songwriting. Despite all the harshness and speed, there is a lot of melody in the individual songs.
