OMAR DOOM RELEASES HARD SYNTH-DRIVEN COVER OF THE CURE’S “ONE HUNDRED YEARS”  — LISTEN

Musician and actor Omar Doom returns with a ferocious reinterpretation of “One Hundred Years,” the opening track from Pornography, the landmark 1982 album by The Cure.

Stripping away the original’s wailing guitars, Doom rebuilds the song around a relentless analog synth riff, transforming the post-punk classic into a hard, driving darkwave assault.

Known for his brooding sound and cinematic intensity, Doom replaces Robert Smith‘s guitar attack with a pulsing synthesizer line that pushes the song into darker electronic territory. The result is a stark, modern reimagining — mechanical, hypnotic, and brutally rhythmic — while still preserving the apocalyptic spirit that made the original so enduring.

“‘One Hundred Years’ has always felt like the beginning of the end,” says Doom. “I wanted to keep the menace of the song but translate it through machines instead of guitars.”

The release marks Doom’s first major cover since stepping away from his previous musical moniker STRAIGHT RAZOR, now releasing music under his own name. Over the past several years, he has built a devoted following through a blend of darkwave, techno, and EBM, as well as through his visually striking live performances and videos.

Beyond music, Doom is widely recognized for his work as an actor in films by Quentin Tarantino, including Death Proof and Inglourious Basterds. In recent years, however, he has increasingly focused his creative output on music, crafting a dark, immersive sonic world that continues to evolve.

Following the release of his album Casualty, Doom toured across Europe with influential electronic act VNV Nation, bringing his high-intensity live show to audiences throughout Germany, France, the Netherlands, and the UK.

With his reinterpretation of “One Hundred Years,” Omar Doom injects new voltage into one of gothic music’s most iconic opening statements — replacing guitars with cold synth fire and dragging the song deeper into the shadows.
