Midnight Rider
Limited Infinity
Label: Massacre Records
Out: 22nd May 2026
Playing time: 47:38

The long-awaited third studio album, ‘Limited Infinity’, by German Heavy Rock band Midnight Rider is due for release in May. The band’s history dates back to 2004. Their self-titled EP wasn’t released until 2008. There was a lengthy hiatus after that, and it took until 2017 for their debut album, ‘Manifestation’, to be released, followed by ‘Beyond The Blood Red Horizon’ in 2022. Now another four years have passed.

On ‘Charlemagne’, the guitars really kick off from the very first note. The vocals from new member Chris Black (High Spirits) are distinctive and expressive. And there’s a strong first guitar solo to be heard. The title track ‘Limited Infinity’ takes on an anthemic feel, with very rhythmic riffs. ‘The Renegade’ is also very rhythmic, though somewhat calmer overall. “Generations” comes across as rhythmic with powerful drums. The riffs are subtly placed. The chorus captivates with a catchy melody. ‘Twice The Pride – Double The Fall’ is heavily blues-influenced. ‘The Battle Of Brighton’ is introduced by the sound of motor engines. This is followed by fast-paced Rock’n”Roll. It captures the atmosphere of the Brighton Speed Trials (?) (until 2014) well. ‘Defenders Of The Dormant Ones’ is a quiet, anthemic song with big guitar riffs. The song title ‘Blitzlight’ sounds a bit like German-English (in German ‘Blitzlicht’, in English it’s actually “flashlight”). But I think this play on words is intentional. More fast-paced Rock’n’Roll. Shortly before the end, “Dark Shadows” follows as another fast-paced anthem. Finally, the short “Evening Lights” is an instrumental, acoustic and ballad-like outro.

‘Limited Infinity’ offers a good three-quarters of an hour of classic Heavy Metal just as it was played in the late 70s. You can hear influences from Judas Priest and, above all, Black Sabbath. Without copying these great bands, Midnight Rider manage to create a sound of their own. With Blumi (Jochen Blumenthal), only one founding member remains; all the other musicians are making their recording debut on this album. Nevertheless, the album sounds consistent, as if the band had been playing together for ages.
