With a name inspired by the fires that light the pathways of the dead, the spirit of Fogos was first invoked in Barcelona, in 2021. Steeped in the essence of second wave, Scandinavian black metal yet possessed of an undeniably individual character, the band’s first collection of unholy hymns, Corpses And Ashes, was unleashed in 2022. The album was met with fervent acclaim throughout the metal underground, with the respected Metal Bite declaring it a ‘black metal gem’. Rampaging live performances followed, with the likes of Djevel, Ancient, Noctem, Kraanium and many more – Fogos carving their name into the consciousness of an ever-growing horde. And now the time has come to return to the world of their dark imaginings, to pass through the portal and confront a new array of devils, to walk the paths of bloodshed and decay once more with new album, Of Wyrm And Men!

As Of Wyrm And Men begins with the rich, compelling atmosphere and devastating power of ‘Wyrm’, a pall of night descends…one which will not lift again until the final notes of the cursed and melodious ‘Babel’ have fallen silent. The darkness that Fogos summon consumes you and clasps you tight in an embrace of bone and rot – this is pure black metal in all its fearsome splendour! Each song here entwines into an all-encompassing tapestry of terror, yet each one also stands proud as a unique entity, ablaze with strength and imperious presence. The riffs are superb, the song structures accomplished, the atmosphere enthralling and the intensity breathtaking; from the eponymous ‘Fogos’ with its lyrical conjurations of eternal floods and chthonic waters, constructing an inescapable labyrinth of shadows, to the beguiling ‘Faun’, with its cascading notes like lightning strikes through the blast beat thunder, drawing you into visions of profane sacrifice and devilish delirium. Elsewhere ‘Messiah’ is vicious in its sonic violence, a fiercely defiant firestorm, the band blasting like rebel angels who will bend the knee and bow their head to none. This album is a journey through temptation and damnation, a tumultuous onslaught of obscene dreams and night terrors, visitations and violations, an unforgettable inferno of steel and blood.

Recorded and mixed by Javi Félez at Moontower Studio (Avulsed, Deströyer 666, Crisix etc) and mastered by Dan Lowndes at Resonance Sound Studio (Absu, Leviathan, Sigh etc), Of Wyrm And Men sounds magnificent, a shattering assault on the senses. Featuring guest appearances from Rider G. Omega from Obsidian Kingdom and J. F. Fiar from Foscor, Of Wyrm And Men is out now on Satanath Records and Poisoned Furrows Records. This is a monumental testament to the enduring might of black metal.
