HATEFULMURDER has released their new single, “I Give My Soul,” accompanied by a high-production music video. The track is part of an upcoming four-song EP titled *Death Made Us Better*, scheduled for release in late 2026.
The song retains HATEFULMURDER’s core essence while exploring new sonic territories—specifically through the prominent use of clean and driven vocals (a technique introduced by current vocalist Giulia Roiz) contrasted with heavy guttural passages. This interplay between melody and heaviness captures the intense concept behind the track.
The change in vocalists was more than just a swap; it was a seismic shift in the band’s identity. Gone is the more restrained, accessible aura of the past; the group now embraces a brutal aggression that occasionally evokes the primal fury and razor-sharp technique of Alissa White-Gluz’s prime years with The Agonist.
According to Giulia, the lyrics deal with total surrender to a purpose and a desire so profound it becomes impossible to ignore.
“The song is about *Sehnsucht*—a German word representing a deep longing, almost like a yearning for something we haven’t yet experienced. For me, it’s about the feeling that there is a place, a passion, or a purpose where we belong, and being willing to give everything to reach it. When we find something that gives meaning to our existence, every step takes on a purpose. ‘I Give My Soul’ is about that surrender—about following that call even when no one around us can grasp the intensity of that desire,” the vocalist comments.
The riffs—previously more linear—have gained layers of heaviness and a gritty edge that was previously missing, landing with the impact of precise, powerful blows. The band’s new stage presence injects a visceral energy, conveying a level of confidence not seen in a long time. Visually, the music video acts as a declaration of war: its dark aesthetic and intense performance not only introduce but cement this pivotal shift. More than just a new phase, this marks a definitive fresh start—heavier, more imposing, and proof that, sometimes, a band’s best version is yet to come.
Founding guitarist Renan Campos wrote “I Give My Soul” with the specific aim of crafting a proper song, rather than just a heavy track. He comments:
“I wanted to incorporate a waltz-like verse, a more explosive chorus, and a strong melody that would steer the music in different directions. We’re going through a process of change, you know? I don’t want to make the same album for my entire career. I think it’s important for the band to evolve, experiment, and allow itself to explore new territory. Yet, at the same time, I don’t feel we’ve lost our essence. If someone asked me today exactly which metal subgenre HATEFULMURDER plays, I honestly wouldn’t know how to answer. And, in a way, I think that’s a good thing. Perhaps our identity lies precisely in not needing to fit into a single definition.”
With Giulia Roiz on vocals, Renan Campos on guitar, Victor Magalhães on bass, and Thomás Martinoia on drums, the band is embracing this new chapter and preparing for a European tour in 2027.
Formed in Rio de Janeiro, HATEFULMURDER boasts extensive experience—spanning over a decade on the road—including the release of four studio albums and two EPs, as well as two South American tours and four tours across Brazil.
Marking a major evolution, *I’m That Power* (2024) showcased a band that had matured and set its sights on the global stage, garnering international media attention and delivering standout performances—including a set at the inaugural Bangers Open Air festival. Singles such as “Psywar,” “Eye For An Eye,” “Call Out Your Soul,” “Crime e Castigo,” “This Is The Final Hour,” “Set Fire,” and “The Root Of Fear” received worldwide coverage, with features in outlets like *Decibel Magazine*, *ChaosZine*, *Brave Words*, and *Metal Hammer*.
The critically acclaimed *Reborn* (2019) was released entirely independently, funded by fans through a crowdfunding campaign. It is a cohesive, powerful, and bold album that marks another major milestone in the band’s career—a project created by fans, for fans.
The tour supporting the album *Red Eyes* (2017)—released via the UK label Secret Service Records—stands as one of the largest independent tours in the history of Brazilian metal. The band traveled over 13,000 km by bus, playing 24 shows in 30 days and visiting every region of Brazil. This album also marked the arrival of vocalist Angélica Burns; her voice became the band’s newest weapon, demonstrating immense power in both the recorded tracks and live performances. Dating back to the *No Peace* era (2014)—their debut album released by the renowned Brazilian label Cogumelo Records—HATEFULMURDER conquered Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Chile during their first tour outside Brazil, fueled by “fury on stage and blood in their eyes,” as they like to put it.
The band currently consists of Giulia Roiz (vocals), Renan Campos (guitar), João Victor (bass), and Thomás Martin (drums). Former members Angélica Burns (vocals) and Felipe Modesto (bass) left the band in May 2025 to pursue different paths.
