Mine To Wake follows Vera’s ritual to awaken an ancient Lich God with Kane’s revenge woven into the story.
Vera is a powerful necromancer who later becomes a lich. She gathers souls from graves in her lantern to use in a ritual. With her acolytes, she magically removes the water from a lake, revealing an ancient submerged temple on the lakebed. They descend into the temple, bringing a vampire with them.
The vampire is Kane’s sire. Kane, himself a vampire, takes revenge on the sire who killed his lover in the 1920s – the story told in Calculated Mercy – and retrieves his lover’s soul, which the sire had stolen. The sire is then sacrificed. Drawing on that power, Vera first calls forth the lost souls beneath the lake. She then breaks her lantern, releasing the souls she gathered from the graves. With these spirits, she awakens and revives the Lich God deep beneath the earth
