The Italian Melodic Metal band Feline Melinda from Bolzano (Trentino, Italy) was formed back in 1987. Since then, there have evidently been only a few line-up changes. The demo “Praeludium” was released in the same year the band was formed. However, their self-titled debut album was not released until 2004. Three further studio albums and one live album followed. In 2019, the EP “Duets” marked their first collaboration with singer Doris Albenberger, who also hails from Trentino. To mark their 40th anniversary, the EP “Duets II” – also featuring Doris Albenberger on vocals – is due for release in October via the label Diotima Records. For this, some of the band’s most popular songs have been re-recorded. The production was handled by Marco Ober and Sascha Paeth, whilst the artwork was created by Rhett Podersoo.

Well, right from ‘More Than Ever’ you can hear high-quality Melodic Metal. The band is driven by a few double-bass drum attacks. Doris Albenberger’s vocals fit perfectly with Rob Irbiz’s. And Mattia Carli shines with a fine guitar solo. Strings and synth keys introduce ‘Seventh Heaven’. The drums set the calm tempo with powerful precision. But here too, the double bass provides some serious intensity. Another guitar solo rounds off the song. “Morning Dew” kicks off seamlessly with a guitar solo, and the vocal duo of Albenberger and Irbiz impress once again. Things continue in much the same vein with the rather calmer “Seven Sins Seven Lies”. Catchy melodies are underpinned by keyboards and given a Metal edge by heavy drums, before another guitar solo brings the song to an end. Finally, the EP concludes with the beautifully contemplative ballad “Before The Dawn”. Here, Doris and Rob once again deliver a top-class performance.

An exceptionally full sound, a real knack for beautiful melodies and an outstanding vocal duo make for a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Powerful guitar solos, punchy bass and heavy drumming give the whole thing a slight Metal edge. Anyone who likes catchy, Melodic Metal should definitely give this EP a listen.
