Sons Of Cult were formed in 2020 on the Balearic island of Mallorca. There have been quite a few line-up changes since then. Three of the four members are now also part of the Doom Metal band Golgotha. The latest addition to the band was singer María J. Lladó, who joined in 2025. Previously, the band had been fronted by male vocalists. Their debut album, ‘Back To The Beginning’, was released in 2023. Two EPs followed, with the EP ‘Live From Groove’, released in early 2026, featuring a live recording of a show in Bilbao (Portugal). ‘Revenge’, the Mallorcan band’s second studio album, is due for release in September.
‘Steel Miles’ is classic riff-driven Heavy Metal. I’d already come to appreciate Maria J. Lladó’s vocals from the Doom Metal band Golgotha. And they’re a perfect fit here too. Can we hear references to Iron Maiden or Saxon in ‘Our Heroes Never Die’? At the very least, the twin guitars are showcased to perfection here. And the track is even more rock-oriented than the opener. Perhaps the bands mentioned are even the ones referred to as the immortal heroes? ‘United’ develops in much the same vein. The rousing ‘Never Too Late’ is also characterised by the interplay of both guitarists, with a powerful sing-along chorus. Naturally, the songs wouldn’t be complete without the magnificent guitar solos. And these are celebrated with exquisite finesse on ‘Chasing The Dream’. Drummer Jordi Segura sets the right rhythm and ensures his bandmates are spurred on. ‘We Are Not Alone’ could almost have come straight from the heyday of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. ‘Hate Me’ is the album’s contemplative ballad, featuring superb guitars and a female vocalist who shows her soulful side. Six and three-quarters minutes that simply inspire you to dream – the longest, but arguably also the best track on the album. And then there’s another NWOBHM track, the closing song ‘Paranoia’.
‘Revenge’ is a real Metal blast. All the tracks exude that 70s and 80s Metal vibe. Thankfully, the musicians never make any attempt to polish the sound to make it modern. The tracks blast out of the speakers, raw and unfiltered.
