White Crone ‘The Poisoner’

White Crone is the project of established blues artist Lisa Mann who is taking a different approach to her usual blues style and stepping into the world of heavy metal with White Crone releasing their debut album ‘The Poisoner’.
As expected with ‘The Poisoner’, there is a large leaning on heavy metal, but Mann does stay relatively within her blues remit. This means that ‘The Poisoner’ has a real 70’s hard rock and metal vibe to it with some heavy blues laden riffs all accentuated by Mann’s beautiful voice. These tracks have a dark, rich tone to them that would appeal to fans of early Judas Priest, but in particularly, Mann’s rich timbre and tone draws parallels to Ronnie James Dio, particularly with his work with both Rainbow and Black Sabbath, but also something more contemporary having the appeal of Jennie-Ann Smith from Avatarium that can be seen during excellent tracks such as ‘To The Abyss’, ‘Under Hag Stones’ and the title track. There is something a lot deeper here too, ‘New Planet Earth’ has a real 60’s psychedelic vibe to it and really shows the diversity that White Crone are capable of.
‘The Poisoner’ is a real surprise; White Crone have delivered an album that is thoroughly enjoyable with easily memorable songs that provide every chance to sing along with an ability to appeal to a wide demographic that will draw in not just traditional heavy metal fans, but also doom metal as well as classic and hard rock; fans of these genres would do well to check out ‘The Poisoner’.
