The year of 2016 is coming to an end before it’s over let’s take a look into the past and into the future to discuss albums and events that are shaping metal today.

We had quite a few really good albums this year such as Slow Death by Carnifex, Where Shadows Forever Reign by Dark Funeral, King by Fleshgod Apocalypse, Jomsviking by Amon Amarth and Arctic Thunder by Darkthrone, not to mention the recently released album Hour of the Nightingale by Trees of Eternity which was probably the album I looked forward to the most because I am a huge fan of Aleah Stanbridge’s voice, she was the singer of Trees of Eternity as well as a guest vocalist on many Swallow the Sun songs. Sadly Aleah passed away in April 2016 and I was very saddened by the news, for those you are into atmospheric doom metal and ambient music I suggest you should give Trees of Eternity a listen. Now let’s take a look into the future because Mayhem is doing a massive tour which they will be performing the whole De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas album live!!! This album is probably the most well known Norwegian black metal albums ever and it’s one of my personal favorites this tour is gonna be extremely monumental to not just black metal but metal as a whole, I can’t think of any recent events that were as big as this. This tour is like today’s equivalent of the Clash of the Titans thrash metal tour from 1990-1991!!! Just absolutely astonishing to know that I hopefully will be able to see one of my favorite bands performing their greatest album live! Speaking of great black metal concerts, Emperor will be performing their Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk album this summer in Germany for the album’s 20th anniversary! Along with Satyricon and Mayhem, Emperor is another favorite Norwegian black metal band of mine. I heard a rumor that in 2017 we might be getting a new Morbid Angel album, hopefully the “destructos won’t be marching this time…” Hopefully 2017 will be another great year for metal and that new albums, new bands and maybe even whole new genres will emerge in the ever-growing world of Heavy Metal!
