Rush, Kobra and the Lotus, Exciter, Billy Talent, Annihilator, Unleash The Archers, … The list of well-known rock and metal acts from Canada could go on and on. Graveyard Disciples could have been added. If they hadn’t split up right after the debut “Devil’s Night” was finished. Personal reasons led to the termination of the project, which was launched in October 2014. During this time the band worked intensively on this album. Now it is available as a testimony and legacy. But you should never say never. At least some of the musicians want to continue working on musical projects. Let’s see what the future brings.

Total playing time 33 minutes and 1 minute intro of that? “Among The Tombs” starts with synth and piano sounds. Quite dispensable. But you will be compensated at “Forsaken”. Classic hard rock with a very good singer. With a voice that would go well with dark rock bands. And a chorus that you want to sing along with immediately. In the middle then pounding riffs followed by a filigree guitar solo. Rocker heart what more do you want. Everything is offered here that corresponds to the cliché of the genre, but without sounding embarrassing or contrived. That continues with “Dark River” and “Mouth of the Lion”. Catchy but above all also varied melodies. It gets a bit calmer with the hymnic “Only Lovers Are Left Alive”. But the rest is short. At “Above & Beyond” the Canadians go full again. A good rock album naturally needs a power ballad. The title song “Devil’s Night” is a hybrid of power ballad and rock anthem. Afterwards “What Gets Through” rocks again, while the outro “If It’s Over” is a classic ballad, very calm, with piano and strings and some sound gadgets.

It is actually unfortunate that this band no longer exists. There was a lot of potential in this quintet. The debut was a success. Timelessly beautiful songs that convey the atmosphere of the eighties, refined with a pinch of dark rock.
