“The producer, creative director, songwriter, and performer is a bonafide artist, unapologetically expressing herself with an authenticity that you can feel deep within. She toys with gender, androgyny, good vs. evil, and so much more.”

– Office Magazine

“…incredibly dramatic and colossal…” – Stereogum

“The mythologies retold by Celestial Blues have roots in trauma, but King Woman still startle with moments of nonplussed beauty, leaving you somewhere between exorcism and ecstasy.” – Chicago Reader

“…the magnum opus of their career so far. Past albums have only hinted at the extreme direction — aurally and visually — the band have adopted for the new record.” – Consequence

“Esfandiari is one of the best songwriters and composers going right now in underground music and Celestial Blues is yet another jewel in her ever-crowded crown.” – Treble

July 30, 2021 – King Woman’s highly-anticipated sophomore album, Celestial Blues, is available now via Relapse Records (bit.ly/kingwomancb).

The nine-song release has been praised for the palpably raw emotion singer Kris Esfandiari has poured into the collection. From the “sparser, more vulnerable moments” (The Quietus) of tracks like “Boghz” and “Golgotha” to the “skull-crush levels of intensity” (Stereogum) displayed on songs like “Morning Star” and “Psychic Wound,” Celestial Blues lays bare Esfandiari’s truths, most importantly her self-absolution over “her religious upbringing, and all the childhood trauma and existential crises that came along with it” (Revolver).

Celestial Blues was recorded in Oakland, California by GRAMMY-nominated engineer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Amenra, Oathbreaker). The band is rounded out by drummer Joseph Raygoza and guitar player Peter Arensdorf. Visual collaborations featured in the album packaging were created by Nedda Afsari, Collin Fletcher, and Jamie Parkhurst.

The album is available now with both clear with black smoke (limited to 535 copies) and blood red vinyl variants available via Relapse’s webstore (bit.ly/kingwomancb), while digital downloads and streaming links can be found here: (orcd.co/kingwomancb).

King Woman have scheduled a trio of mini-residencies in Los Angeles, Brooklyn and Oakland, with the Los Angeles and Brooklyn dates already sold out. Boy Harsher and Rituals of Mine are amongst the openers for the upcoming shows.
