Everlust is a Gothic Rock/Melodic Metal band from the Latvian capital Riga. The band’s history goes back to 2006, when singer and guitarist Vlad Pucens decided to put his own musical taste into practice. He recorded the first demo “Unreal” in 2007. After that, nothing happened for a few years. It wasn’t until 2013 that Vlad made another attempt to found his own band. The first rehearsals were scheduled. And there were also several live performances. Three years later, Everlust started the studio production for their debut album “Hurts To Live”. After several line-up changes, albums two and three were released. Most recently “Diary Of Existence” (2021). And now the new EP “The Tale Of The Noble Knight” is finished.
“The Tale Of The Noble Knight” is a melodic midtempo rocker where the riffs are in the foreground. When Kate Brown sings, the instrumentation is somewhat reduced. Later, however, the riffs return. In “Execution” the piano comes more to the fore. Here, too, the Latvians move in the melodic midtempo range. Even though there is no mention of piano or keyboards in the line-up, you can hear it clearly in “Nostalgie”. Later there is string instrumentation. After the midtempo rockers, an acoustic ballad follows with “Ego”, strings (from the synth) and acoustic guitars accompany Vlad Pucens’ vocals. Finally, Everlust dare to play a world pop hit. The Ace of Base cover of “Happy Nation” is definitely more rocking than the original. The musicians have transported the Pop song authentically into the Rock realm. The melody line is close to the original, so that the recognition value is quite high. Pop of the early 1980s in the Rock style of the 2020s.
With “The Tale Of The Noble Knight”, Everlust released a respectable EP. The focus is less on Metal and more on Rock. And don’t be afraid of the word “Gothic” in the genre description. The usual clichés are not rolled out here. The voices of both singers sound extremely pleasant. Only the one or other keyboard passage is reminiscent of gothic rock.
