ANCIENT TEETH has a summative 103 years of musical experience between them. Comprised of veteran musicians who are closer to getting a root canal than
starting a TikTok page, lead singer-songwriter Adrian Mottram (Sights & Sounds, Seas, The Getaway), guitarist Chris Huges (Moneen, Seas), bassist Jahmeel Russell (Red Vienna, ACTORS, KEN mode), and drummer Mike Duffield (Beams, Flowers From Hell). In the last few weeks, the group has released their first three singles, “Close to You”, “All That You Are” and “Galvanize” along with two live videos from their upcoming album, Death Bed, out February 7th, 2022. The anthemic, guitar-driven debut album Death Bed is an incredible display of musical maturity weaving through a tasteful blend of grunge, shoegaze and straight-ahead rock. Washed-out, emotion-heavy, layered vocals delve into vast depths of poignant introspection on the joys of new birth, the devastating loss of a family member, missed opportunities and gained perspectives. Through age and experience, Mottram has been able to eloquently refine his thoughts into a tangible collection of meaningful songs.
The latest single released just yesterday, “Close To You” is a catchy, detuned track full of fuzzed guitar riffs and layers of soft pensive vocals. It brings the listener into the band’s universe. The drums provide an unrelenting heartbeat that builds the song to a crest as the lyrics “Why stand so close to you?” sum up the story. It’s about walking away from a loved one who was causing destruction to themselves and everyone around them.
The second single, “All That You Are” opens with epic vocals and guitar riffs. It’s a succinct musical masterpiece that builds to a massive peak with hypnotic marching drums and choir vocals manifesting self-empowerment and unified oneness to the listener. An empowering experience, the track is about believing in and encouraging yourself to take the leap into the dark unknown.
The group’s debut single “Galvanize”, released in October is an aggressive, driving track with dreamy washed-out vocals and heavy, ethereal, massive fuzzed-out guitars It’s about learning to take the plunge instead of needing to have all the answers beforehand and embracing the unknown
