Black Paisley hail from the Swedish capital Stockholm. The band was founded in 2015 and has since dedicated itself to the so-called New Wave Of Classic Rock (NWOCR). This also defines the sound that awaits the listener on the current album “Human Nature”. Three CDs or vinyl records have been released so far. The list of releases is indeed longer. However, this is due to the different formats, which were released with a time delay. Thus, “Human Nature” is the fourth sign of life of the Swedes.
“Set Me On Fire” starts with short a cappella vocals. But then both guitarists provide a lot of pressure from the speakers. Straight Rock with a great slide guitar solo. “In The Night” then has a Southern Rock attitude. The riffs and guitar runs in “Not Alone” sound like Heavy Metal, the smoky voice again provides whiskey infused Southern Rock atmosphere. “Promises” captivates with beautiful melodies that are again underpinned by smoky-sounding vocals. In addition, a sing-along chorus. The guitar parts of “Silent Asylum” somehow remind you of early Scorpions. The riffs, which can be heard later under the vocals, sound decent. A great guitar solo puts the icing on the cake. Blues-Rock pleasing? You can hear it on “Mojo.”. The vocals fit wonderfully. The title track “Human Nature” offers gloomy sounding Hard Rock with its riffs. “Dont Call Me A Liar” then rocks straight ahead again. The vocals are more southern than many representatives of this genre. And for the repeated time, great guitar solos. Power Pop often doesn’t have too good a reputation. On “Hard Times” the Swedes show how good it can sound, mixed with Rock and Country elements. With “Worlds Turning” Aerosmith send their regards. Easy and swinging. And the chorus could be from early Bon Jovi times. The guitar work on “Crazy” creates a happy summer feeling. Pure Good Mood Rock. “Set Me Free” is neither the ballad of Avenged Sevenfold nor the pop song of the European Song Contest 2021. No, this is a smashing Rock song, in which once again the slide guitar comes into its own.
“Human Nature” is a Rock masterpiece. There are various references to Blues Rock or Southern Rock. Many great guitar solos, unique vocals. A fat but well-balanced production of the songs provides a lot of listening pleasure. And even after repeated listening it doesn’t get boring. I can only warmly recommend this album to every Rock fan.
