… Into The Promised Land

There have been quite a few changes at Cave. Most notably, Ronny Munroe has left the band due to logistical problems with the US singer. The split was not easy. But there have also been a few other line-up changes to report. After a little over two years, the band from Ludwigsburg in Germany’s Baden-Württemberg region is back with their second album, ‘… Into The Promised Land’. I really liked their debut album, ‘Out Of The Cave’. The question now is what impact the line-up changes will have on the new album.
Hard guitar riffs introduce ‘Ghost In The Mirror’. These also dominate later on. Despite its hardness, this song is melodic. Tommy Laasch’s vocals pick up on the hardness and effortlessly hold their own against the loud instrumental section. The anthem ‘Rise!’, on the other hand, is somewhat calmer with distinctive clean guitars. Piano sounds can be heard at the beginning of ‘This Is Us’. Then, however, the guitars take over. A powerful bass foundation accompanies the melodic arcs. ‘Time Riders’ is introduced by a few synths. Then the riffs stomp calmly forward. Strong guitar runs dominate the mid-tempo anthem ‘Power Of Rock’. There is also a chorus that fans are sure to sing along to loudly at live shows. The longest track, ‘Your Light Shines On’, at seven and a half minutes, is initially introduced by an orchestra. The other instruments join in with a crescendo. A great arc of tension is built up. Once again, Cave prove their knack for beautiful, catchy melodies that never sound cheesy. ‘Promised Land’ is probably the hardest track fans will hear on this album. The guitars gallop, driven by fast drumming. Emotions run high in the piano ballad ‘Through Every Storm’. Only in the middle do the drums and guitars kick in quietly. Heartbreakingly beautiful! ‘New Horizons’ also starts off quietly. But that’s just the calm before the storm. In this powerful power metal anthem, the drums and guitars provide an impressive heaviness. Those who purchase the CD will receive a small bonus in the form of ‘Obsession.’ And this one is quite something. Former singer Ronny Munroe provided the vocals. Powerful drums, fast guitars and slightly raspy vocals ensure a hard finish.
‘… Into The Promised Land’ is a worthy successor. Singer Tommy Laasch does a great job. Hard Rock songs, awesome Metal anthems and a beautiful ballad make for plenty of variety. The only thing I don’t really like is the album cover, so I’m deducting a few points for that.
