February 2021, you released your debut Cold Stare, Can you tell me about the songwriting and production behind the album?
Surely. The album was born during the lockdown period, when me and Berry, the guitarist and main composer, decided to record some musical ideas, helped by the drummer friend Pietro Vecchi. The tracks were all recorded in our private studios at home, then I went to record the vocals and backing instruments in a larger recording studio. later, after having launched the work as a self-production, we began to receive numerous contacts from distribution and record companies, and in the end we began the wonderful collaboration with the legendary Jack and his label Wanikiya Record/Promotion.
Was there a concept that was put behind this album?
The recurring theme of the lyrics is that of the individual’s inner search, his need for light and certainties in dark times, represented as dark forces always lurking.
6 amazing tracks with a blend of a bit of Vedic enigmatic with rock/metal infused sound, how as a creator do you feel about the sound that you created?
We are very proud of the sound we have created. I have always been passionate about Indian music and culture, in fact in addition to being a vocal coach, singer and actor, I am a teacher of Yoga and Meditation, and I also studied music in India. I have always wanted to blend together my great passions, Metal, ethnic music and spiritual topics. I’m happy with the result.
Cover art of the album is quite fascinating, what is the theme that was put behind this album cover?
The cover is Berry’s idea. We have merged the idea of the Indian concept of Mandala, and its mystical and spiritual part, with psychedelia. The result is perfect
You are a singer, actor, radio and television celebrity with two other bands Indhastria and Hell Flames, how do you make it all possible?
Not only that, I am also the male protagonist of the Rock Opera “Oltre L’Abisso”, also distributed by Jack. I have dedicated my life to singing and music, when the passion is great everything is possible, time does not exist.
What are the upcoming plans with Acid Mantra?
For a few days we have been working on the second album, which presumably will be released around October. We are also creating a Live situation that combines readings from authors who inspired us (Poe, Lord Byron etc.) with live music.
Any plans to make it into a complete band?
Yes, now the line-up includes two new elements, Daniel on bass and Marco on drums. Also on the second album we have a lot of interesting guests planned.
Would you like to share some of the great moments that you had over the years?
As for the music, every moment is unique and unrepeatable, every time I compose or go on stage the emotion is as strong as the first time. The events that I remember as fundamental are certainly the meeting with my partner, Lara, who supports me every moment, and the understandings I obtained through my meditation path, which flowed into creativity. And, of course, the meeting with Berry and the birth of the Acid Mantra.
How do you come up with Acid Mantra, how do you got interested in Indian Mystique and vedic ideologies?
The name Acid Mantra brings together two of our influences, psychedelia and the oriental mystical experience. As a Yoga and Meditation teacher, I have personally experienced the power of Mantras and their influence on our energy, even mental. The link with the Doom / Stoner musical current is much deeper and stronger than what one might think at first glance.
Finally what would be the message for the fans?
Look for a way of knowing yourself, and bring it into your interests. This will allow you to open your mind and your horizons, and to discover many treasures along the way. And don’t forget to follow the Acid Mantra, we always have great news. Rock on !!!!
