What was the beginning point for your music career? How did it all start?
This is Mr. Bush, chokalist for FREQUENCY OVERLOAD! The beginning point for me was early on. My brother Robert was a huge music fan and guitarist. back then he turned me on to all the classic rock, Led Zeppelin, Floyd, Queen, all of that stuff. As I discovered my own bands like Kiss, Judas Priest, and Maiden my interest headed toward the heavier. Then I found Venom, and everything changed. I relentlessly sought the heavier and found Slayer, Carnivore, Metallica, and Megadeth. It was then, in middle school that I picked up a microphone and joined my first band. More of a passion than a career it has been something that has been my therapy all these many years. Through many bands with many members, but metal has always been the constant in my life’s equation.
Was there any bumps on the road? What kind of challenges did you have to deal with?
There have always been many challenges and bumps in the road. After the death of my brother Robert I went off the deep end with drugs and alcohol, a burden I would carry for 30 years. This led to problems with any relationship I had, and band’s are relationships. The battle that is addiction affects everything. In one band I was only to have my first drink at the end of our set, and rightly so. The band voted that rule in. I was a violent, despicable asshole when I drank.
What was the most fulfilling and satisfying moment so far?
For me the most satisfying result has been getting FREQUENCY OVERLOAD together, recording an album, and getting signed to SODEH records all within two and a half years. That moment when we signed the contract and sent it off was so uplifting. To see that others appreciate and understand our band.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
That’s a tough question. I would describe our music as a free flowing expression of metal. A genreless melting pot with something for all metalheads.
What is your creative process like?
There are a few different ways that our songs take shape. Usually one of the guys presents a riff or beat at rehearsal and it builds. Other times the guys will just start ad lib jamming and I will enunciate nonsense words just as a pattern idea. Many of the tracks on FATE ANTHROPIC were written in whole by guitarist Corey Schaefer. He is a riff machine. So in that case, the whole band will learn and record something, and present it to me so I can write the lyrics.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I would change the amount band’s get paid per spin in the new streaming world. Life is expensive and these platforms are raking it in, while the bands eat scraps. I definitely would love to change the “pay to play” culture as well. If you want to open for a national, and you have the chops, it’s a tremendous buy on.
If you were asked to give a piece of advice to upcoming bands, what would that be?
To believe in your music! Manifest your success! Don’t go a day without promoting yourself in some way. And above all do not “try” to be anything…be you, let it flow!
What has been the best performance of your career so far?
I think our performance at Dingbatz in New Jersey was, for me, our best. Having Joey Z from Life Of Agony record our album, gave us contact with his bass player Alan. His band Spoiler NYC had us open the3 show and we did really well.
If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing now?
I have had other passions. For many years I ran a reptile breeding and educational business. I think I would have made a hell of a herpetologist!
What is new with the band at the moment? What are you currently working on and would like to share with the world?
At the moment we have released our debut album, FATE ANTHROPIC, on SODEH RECORDS, and all streaming platforms! We are currently recording the pre production tracks for our second album to present to SODEH, as well as looking at US festivals for 2025. The future looks good, and we are ready to thrive and accelerate. Our website www.frequencyoverload.com is gaining traffic and making sales! Thanks you so much for your interest!
