“ODYSSEY” INTERVIEW by David Maloney
First off I would like to welcome you to Metalheads Forever Magazine, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for our publication. How are you?
Great! Thank you. Thank Metalheads Forever for giving us the opportunity of broadcasting our Music.
How are things in the World of Odyssey? Can you tell us a little about the band and its members and their respective roles within the band?
Celia (lead vocal): I’m the lead singer, Yannis is the guitarist & composer, Krauzer is our crazy bassist and Theo is our drummer.
Odyssey was formed in 2016 and hail from Paris, France? Are all members from Paris? Surrounding areas or other Countries?
Yannis (guitarist): We’re all from Paris. But Celia has lived in Latin America and a part of her family is from Brazil. I met her in 2015 and we started working together until 2016, when Theo and Krauzer joined the band.
Odyssey has been described as a “Urban Metal band” that can be perceived many ways, can you describe to our readers what “Urban Metal” means to you as a band and in terms of your style and sound? It’s a mixture of different musical Genres? I’ve listened to some of your music and it indeeds has a distinctive sound, would you consider a signature sound?
Yannis (Guitarist): some followers have described us as a “Urban Metal band”. Probably because our style is made of true Heavy Metal Riffs and lyrics updated by very modern sound mixing techniques. This makes our sound accessible to the greatest number of people without betraying Rock Spirit.
Where did you find inspiration to not follow trends but to basically pioneer your own unique identity and style and sound? What bands helped cultivate each different sound that eventually comes together as one. Yours?
Theo (Drummer): We love so many bands and artists… Devin Townsend, Meshuggah, Gojira, Korn and so many others… Even if we’re inspired by all these great artists, we have always wanted to create our own style of music. For us, the most important things are melodies and rhythms. All we want is seeing people listening our songs everywhere, as people do with other styles. We don’t care about trends. So we don’t follow them. We only do what we want. That’s our way of life and our way to create music. Very pleased if you find our sound unique. That’s the point.
I’ve read you have a high octane show filled with a mix of hooks, melodies and pure energy. Is that a fair assessment?
Celia: we have always thought our music for the stage. Metal is a Live Music and we’re a live band. We try to give people a great time and, lucky for us, Metalheads are really the best audience.
You debut your first single “Bleeding” in March, how was that received by the general public, the band and peers in the industry?
Yannis (guitarist): Bleeding was our first collaboration. So, when we hit thousands of views, you can imagine how excited we were. “Bleeding” is a “be yourself” song. Very positive. We chose it to introduce the band as honestly as possible. This is who we really are. No judgments, no Masks, no arrogance. Just Music. To answer your question, we’ve been approached by some professionals and other bands. Only time will tell.
When can we expect the drop of the full length album? What can fans expect from it?
Johanes (bassist): Full album will be probably released early next year.
You know how some records are a soundtrack for part of your life? Even if it’s for just one guy, we hope this album will be a part of his. That’s our way of thinking and that means working hard to do it.
Where can your fans find you with the second half of 2017 heading into 2018?
Johanes (bassist): Our first album and a lot of concerts!!!!!
What other plans do you have for the coming Months, Touring, songwriting, mixing mastering etc?
Célia (singer): We’ve just released our new song “Ashes Fly Away”. You can listen it on Youtube and on our Facebook Page. A new music video is planned for July. We’ll be on stage many times during the summer… Especially on 14 July, for the French National Festival of Bikers, a huge event. We are very proud to have been chosen by the audience.
In closing it was fantastic to have the opportunity to speak with you and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Good luck and all the best, after the album is dropped maybe we can get together and talk a little further. Do you have any closing words to fans and readers of MHF Magazine?
Yannis (Guitarist): Follow us on Facebook, join us on stage, Stay Metal & True.
Thank you David. Long life to Metalheads Forever Magazine. Stay as you are… Cool & Metal
