“RUSSKAJA” INTERVIEW by David Maloney
First off I would like to welcome you to Metalheads Forever Magazine. How are you? How are things in the World Russkaja? Can you tell us a little about the band and it’s members and their roles within the band?
Engel: Privet – Hello! Things are great, we just released our new record a few days ago and it feels very nice right now! We also played some great festival shows like Wacken Open Air Germany and had a lot of fun! Russkaja consists of 7 lovely people, we have drums bass guitar and vocals like a traditional rockNroll band and then we have 2 brothers on trumpet and “potete” (a custom made mixture of trombone and trumpet) and a beautiful girl on violin!
Russkaja Terror of Terrors of all Russian folk Metal Societies- Stands for Fat Austrian Polka beats (: can you tell us more about this?
Sure! Russkaja always is the one thing you don’t expect: from fat heavy riffs and uptempo polka to lovely melodies and Russian folk style!
You are from the Alpine region, where is this region? What is the music scene like there?
We have a small but very nice scene here, everybody knows each other and has some respect for the art we’re all creating!
You are described as illustrious musicians whom possess a colourful mix of cultural backgrounds is this a fair assessment? Can you tell us more?
Our band members all have very mixed musical backgrounds, this is one reason for the diversity in the sound of Russkaja! All of us have done different kinds of musical styles over the years, ranging from metal, grind/hardcore, blues, dixieland, classical, musical and many more!
I’ve read you pour these various cultural influences into a postmodern version of Russian Folk Metal can you please elaborate?
That’s how it turns out in the end! We all like these different styles of music and the most fun part is mixing it all together!
How are you received in your Native Country? Do you have success in other parts of the World? I understand you have a huge following all over Europe?
We want to explore all new countries in the future! Currently we are talking about coming to the US for the first time in 2018, I hope it works out! We also will be performing in Russia in 2018, looking forward to that!
Any plans to come to come to Canada?
Yes, I hope we’ll come in 2018!
What are your plans for the second half of 2017 heading into 2018?
We will be living on the road for the rest of 2017, after that we maybe try to record some cover songs again because it was great fun when we did the Covers of “Avicii”, “Daft Punk” and “Katy Perry” in 2013!
You new album drops in August? What can you tell us?
Our new album was just released on August 04, check it out!
Do you have any message or advice for your fans and readers of our magazine?
Rock on everybody, come to our shows and have a few drinks with us!
In closing I would like to thank you again for answering our questions and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
