Fatal Attraction

Those declared dead live longer. The Rock band Lover from the Olympic city of Calgary (Alberta, Canada) obviously want to confirm this old piece of wisdom. After releasing their EP ‘Fatal Attraction’ digitally in November last year, a music cassette will now follow in June. Is this only for die-hard fans, or are cassette recorders and Walkmans still in use today? I don’t know. Anyway, Lover were formed in February 2024. With their music, they want to appeal to fans of bands such as Scorpions, Riot City, Wasp, Judas Priest, Van Halen, and Thin Lizzy, among others.
The title track ‘Fatal Attraction’ opens this mini-EP. And it kicks off with a bang. Drums and twin guitars provide a rich and voluminous sound. And they provide the perfect accompaniment for Aidan Desmarais’ clear, rocking voice. And then there’s a great guitar solo. “Bad Love” are in no way inferior. Here, too, there is excellent interplay between the guitarists, driven by rhythmic drums. Aidan sings a little more roughly. Towards the end, there is also a short bass solo before the guitars take over the ending.
In the past, ‘Fatal Attraction’ would have been a single with an A-side and a B-side. The only difference is that both songs are equally good. Outstanding twin guitar playing, both rhythm and lead. Strong riffs and excellent solos can be heard. The drums and bass provide the rhythmic and deep tones. I would like to hear more from Lover as soon as possible.
