Greyhawk
Thunderheart
Label: Fighter Records
Out: April 2nd, 2024
Playing time: 44:44

Greyhawk hail from Seattle (USA) and were founded in 2016. And play Classic Heavy Metal. Bassist Darin Wall and guitarist Jesse Berlin are still on board from that time. The other members have also been with the band since the very beginning. Only guitarist Rob Steinway joined the band last year. After the EP “Ride Out” (2018), the debut album “Keepers Of The Flame” was released in 2020. After another EP (“Call Of The Hawk”, 2022), the second album “Thunderheart” was released in April.

After a short introduction, “Spellstone” develops into a Speed Metal par force ride. Singer Rev Taylor is driven by fast drumming. After that, the power ballad “Ombria (City Of The Night)” immediately sets a point of calm. It scores particularly well with its twin guitar passages and an outstanding guitar solo. Rev often sings in a lower vocal range. The title track “Thunderheart” is a great Metal anthem with epic choruses and once again impressive guitar playing. In keeping with the title, “Rock & Roll City” really gets going again. Greyhawk love variety, as can also be heard on the anthemic mid-tempo stomper “Steadfast” with Manowar memory riffs. It’s rare to hear a drum solo on a studio album these days. One has been included here. On “Sacrifice Of Steel”, the US boys forge heavy metal again. The next anthemic power ballad followed with “The Last Mile”. Again, with epic choruses. While the straightforward rocking “Back In The Fight” once again takes no prisoners. The final song, “The Golden Candle”, is a beautiful ballad. Initially purely acoustic, later with the full force of the rhythm section. And as you would expect, the crowning guitar solo follows towards the end.

“Thunderheart” is a highlight of Melodic Power Metal. With baritone Rev Taylor, the band has a unique selling point. His voice has a decisive influence on the album. But what would a great voice be without the musicians on the instruments? And they provide a rich sound. A must have for every Metal fan!
