In Vain are a Metal band from Rivas-Vaciamadrid (Spain). It has its roots in the Melodic Heavy Metal of the 80s. Gradually, the band has incorporated elements of Power, Speed and Thrash into its sound. The band was founded in 2004 and after two demos, the debut album “Of Gods And Men” was released in 2009. Further albums followed at regular intervals. The fifth longplayer “Back To Nowhere” will be released in February 2024.
“Story Of A Lie” begins with a fade in before guitar riffs characterise the song, accompanied by pounding drums. Daniel Cordón’s vocals sound slightly scratchy and a little hectic. But he also masters the high Metal screams. The mid-tempo introduction is followed by High Speed Metal with “For The Fallen”. The Spaniards also keep up the high tempo with “The Force Of Thunder”, driven by pounding drumming, the singer also falls into this speed frenzy. And so it goes on, with “Never Live Again” In Vain try to break speed records. Although “The Blind Man” also has a high tempo, it also features anthemic moments and choruses. However, “Metal Enlightenment” once again takes no prisoners. The same applies to “Days of Glory”. “Back to Nowhere” is anthemic Heavy Metal. Here the musicians show that they can also play with variety. But they can’t do without high speed here either. It’s hard to believe that “The Last Breath of Freedom” initially provides a real point of calm. But In Vain just don’t like calm. I must have taken my mouth a little too full. The great Metal anthem “Dreaming Awake” proves me wrong. “Sacred Bond” brings the album to a fitting close with plenty of speed.
On “Back To Nowhere”, In Vain go full throttle for almost the entire forty-five minutes. They hardly allow themselves or the listener a breather. Nevertheless, they prove time and again that they can do things differently. The songs are varied. And the highlight for me is the aforementioned anthem “Dreaming Awake”.
