Elements of Power

Veonity means classical Ultra-Power Metal: dashing guitars, double bass drums and an abundance of epic choirs, crazy solos and true metal screams are at the center of every track and form the solid ground on which the band’s sound is build.
I could already convince myself of that. For example, on albums like “Gladiator’s Tale” or “Sorrows“. Although there was still room for improvement on the albums. But especially live the quartet is impressive. One secret recipe is probably that the line-up has not changed since the band was founded in 2013. Consistency is something the Swedes can definitely use to their advantage. Of course, I was curious to see whether this would also lead to a leap in the quality of the album productions. Is “Elements Of Power” another work where they can’t make use of their possibilities? Or will they finally make the breakthrough?
With “Beyond The Realm Of Reality” Veonity clearly set the direction for this album. Fast riffs and guitar melodies, driving double bass attacks. And a rock singer of the first order. Epic choruses. A Power Metal parforce ride. Exactly what you have known from the Swedes for years. Maybe a bit heavier than before. This continues with “The Surge”, “Altar Of Power” or the title track “Elements Of Power”. Veonity put the pedal to the metal. Without compromising on the melodies. It’s not for nothing that the word ” Power” is also in some of the song titles. A little later, “Dive Into The Light” is extremely fast-paced. The song swings high into Speed Metal realms. Fortunately, “Blood Of The Beast” sets a small anthemic point of rest. But the supposed calm is only short. The album ends as it began, with high-speed Power Metal (“Curse Of The Barren Plains”, “Return To The Land Of Light”).
This permanent fast pace of ” Ultra-Power-Metal” is both a curse and a blessing. On the one hand, it guarantees a rousing album and thus also thrilling live performances. On the other hand, however, it ultimately makes for a bit of boredom, as there is too little variety. Musically, however, the quartet is impressive. And the production is powerful. But I would wish for more diverse songwriting in the future. So probably not the hoped-for breakthrough yet?
