Tomorrow’s Outlook
Black Waves

The Heavy/Power Metal band Tomorrow’s Outlook was founded in 2007 in Sørvik (Northern Norway). The vision was clear from the start – classic 80s Metal, produced in a modern way with their own distinctive style. The musicians draw inspiration for their songwriting from the majestic landscapes of Arctic Norway. After ‘34613’ (2012) and ‘A Voice Unheard’ (2018), the upcoming ‘Black Waves’ is only the band’s third album.

‘Eventide’ starts with fast guitar riffs. This doesn’t change much in the melodies either. Tony Johannessen sings high-pitched vocals. Acoustic guitars then introduce ‘Oceans Of Sadness’. But the ballad-like style is quickly abandoned and a Metal anthem with beautiful guitar melodies can be heard. ‘Black Hearts And Roses In Snow’ is then significantly harder. Drums and guitars drive the song forward. The title track ‘Black Waves’ is the next partly majestic-sounding, partly fast-paced Power Metal anthem. There are crashing guitars at the beginning of ‘Silver Ghost’. Later, it becomes rhythmic, thanks to the drums and guitar riffs. In the riff driven ‘Wait For The Sun’, the vocals are not quite as high. Once again, guitar solos are thrown in. In addition to a few short solos, the second part features a longer and high-calibre one. ‘Lament Of The Damned’ is driven by fast drumming with extensive double bass use and galloping riffs. Tony Johannessen swings into the high register. Nevertheless, the vocals come across cleanly. Drums and bass dominate at first in ‘When Falls The Axe’. The singer once again demonstrates the versatility of his voice, switching between a dark timbre and high screams. Shortly before the end, ‘The Monument’ follows as another fast-paced Power Metal anthem. The two guitarists play at a very high tempo, especially during the solo. The title almost gives it away. The closing song, ‘The Calm’, is a contemplative power ballad.

With ‘Black Waves’, Tomorrow’s Outlook have released a very good album. This is Melodic Heavy/Power Metal at its finest. The musicians have clearly been greatly inspired by the Arctic landscapes. The vision mentioned above has been fully realised.
