VICTORIUS – POWER METAL FROM OUTER SPACE
VICTORIUS deliver the soundtrack for a world that never truly disappeared – a world of Saturday morning cartoons, action figures, and boundless imagination.
The band Victorius, hailing from Leipzig (Saxony, Germany), was formed in 2004. Since then, they have toured across several continents. They have performed in Europe, Japan and the USA. The musicians captivate audiences with well-crafted show elements, a striking visual style and an outstanding performance. In April, the band released their seventh studio album, entitled ‘World War Dinosaur’.
Right from the opening track, “Kingdom Of The Strong”, the album sets its course – fast, epic, bombastic battle chants. The guitar solos are high-speed too. This doesn’t change much on the title track, “World War Dinosaur”. OK, the sound is calmer, more majestic. That’s certainly due to the influences of Orden Organ and Angus McSix, who feature here. But by the time we reach “Dino Race From Outer Space”, the Saxons are back up to speed again, with a catchy sing-along chorus. And once more, the guitar solos are impressive. “Raptor Squad Attack” then tops its predecessor. Singer David Baßin is literally driven by the drums and the riffs. Synth strings dominate in “Brachio Bazooka Battalion”, along with a few double bass attacks. On “March To War”, we actually hear a fast march in Power Metal guise. “Evil Mean Megalodon” is a little calmer but hardly any less epic. And “the Megalodon growls” in alternation with “ohohoh” choruses. Tim “Tetzel” Schmidt from Asenblut presumably lends his voice to this prehistoric beast. On “Dino Power Resistance”, things really kick off again, driven by drummer Frank Koppe. “Prehistoric Panzer Power” starts with the roar of artillery. What follows is a high-speed Power Metal anthem. The bombastic and fast-paced Power Metal sound remains unchanged throughout the final three tracks, ‘Lazer Ninja Thunderstorm’, ‘Golden Glory’ and ‘Lost Legacy’.
Following ‘Dinosaur Warfare’, ‘Space Ninjas from Hell’ and ‘The Great Ninja War’, Victorius continue their cinematic-style adventure with ‘World War Dinosaur’. Once again, they really lay it on thick. There’s hardly a cliché the musicians leave out. But despite the excess of bombast, the music is a pleasure to listen to. It would be nice, though, if Victorius were to throw in a breather in the form of a power ballad every now and then. At live gigs, however, the fans are sure to go absolutely wild.
