What was the beginning pint for your music career? How did it all start?
(This is Gaetano Marsico speaking, Falling Giant frontman).
I don’t know if this has ever happened to you. Every time, from an early age, that I listened to rock and metal songs in my ears, I imagined myself on stage, singing with the voice of who I was listening to at that moment.
That was my imprinting with this world, a kind of vocation. And the great thing is that Luke, the lead guitarist of the band, also felt the same as a child.
This dream cultivated in listening has led each of us to immediately create their own reality with bands and the desire to make music with a group.
Falling Giant were born like this. we united because the dream of each of us did it. and he did it in an extravagant, absurd way, through a gimmicky ad in which I read that the band was looking for a singer.
Was there any bumps on the road? What kind of challenges did you have to deal with?
Working within a band is much more complex than having a solo project. Inevitably the word of every word carries the same weight. But it is important that you still create the figure of a leader.
Especially when you are independent and the world doesn’t want to invest in bands anymore.
Bands have to constantly finance themselves. And this is the first problem for a band. Looking for money, finding a way to get into the system. And the doors in the face are daily. We have never given up.
What was the most fulfilling and satisfying moment so far?
When we reached and exceeded one million views with our single Hades. But not for the numbers and the streams, but because the song started to go around the world and people started following us.
It was a blessing.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
We will never tire of saying it.
Sensual, dark, elegant and full of energy.
It is our mantra and they are the ingredients of each of our songs.
What is your creative process like?
Literature, cinema, short stories, poems, what we humanly experience, emotions inspire us a lot.
We then draw on our rock and metal idols and let ourselves be influenced by the most disparate genres, starting from gypsy jazz to get to opera.
It certainly helps a lot to live in a city like Rome, which is the cradle of Italian history and beauty.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
It would be very fair to allow bands to get noticed without always having to pay every time.
The industry today, if you are not a big name, does nothing but ask you for money on money.
Now the labels have started asking for money to sign contracts. The system has completely changed.
And nobody understands that not everyone can afford it.
Making music, aiming to make a living from this has become a luxury.
There are no more talent scouts.
If you were asked to give a piece of advice to upcoming bands, what would that be?
Don’t give up. Methods for self-financing exist. Work always pays off.
Play on the street, invent anything to be able to earn and support yourself. The most important thing is not to give up.
What has been the best performance of your career so far?
The last live we did in Rome was really intense.
It was the first time we really prepared the show from start to finish down to the smallest detail.
We worked with a wonderful play of lights, thanks to two fundamental people for our team, Giulia Belardi and Alessandro Albertazzi who created a wonderful light show.
People were so involved.
If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing now?
Surely I would have found more time to devote to acting. Besides music, I am a film actor. But I must say that one thing does not exclude the other and it is very easy to find a balance between these two arts.
What is new with the band at the moment? What are you currently working on and would like to share with the world?
We are working on what will be our next unreleased album.
It is a really ambitious job. It will be an experimental, dark, grotesque concept album. We are inserting many influences, from tango to waltz, from popular music to the purest metal.
It is a little gem.
In the meantime, together with our managers Damian, Roberto and Jorge, from deadfall management, we are planning tours and live shows.
We have a lot of things in hand and it will certainly be a very intense and interesting year.
