EastStone Live at the Suhrhof Open Air
Location: Suhrhof Hamburg-Bergedorf
Date: 11 July 2025

I haven’t been to an open-air event for a long time. Such events are too dependent on the weather. And sometimes with large crowds. At the Suhrhof Open Air, however, things are a little different. For one thing, the Suhrhof Pub is available as a rain alternative. And, in principle, you sit in the outdoor area of two restaurants. Oh, and there was only one band playing at this open air, for about two hours.
And the weather held out that evening, it was dry most of the time. Country Rock was played by the band EastStone from Oststeinbek, a small community just outside Hamburg. Country music of all colours, with influences from Folk, Americana and Rock. This was also evident in the evening’s setlist, which included songs by Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson, Hank Williams, Tammy Wynette and Eric Clapton. This showed the wide range of the musicians. And with one female singer and two male singers, pretty much every vocal range of the original songs was represented. The fun that EastStone had immediately spread to the fans in the audience. They often sang along. During the show, money was collected in a hat, which the musicians were certainly very happy about. Due to the bad weather forecast, the show started at a quarter to eight. The break between the two sets was also kept as short as possible. Nevertheless, it unfortunately turned out as predicted. Shortly before the end, the rain started after all. The musicians had to bring their equipment to safety, in other words into the dry. However, this did not damage the atmosphere. A small side note – there were also ‘animal onlookers’ at this concert. Some pigeons sat on a windowsill and ‘listened devoutly’ to the music. Or had they just set up their night camp there?

The open air in the Suhrhof had its very own, special and familiar atmosphere. It’s not called the most beautiful courtyard in Bergedorf for nothing. The sound was clear and precise. And EastStone delivered really well. My thanks this time go not only to the musicians and the Klangbar staff, but also to the staff of the two restaurants Tō Gao and the AS Bar for the catering.
