Italian Power Metal band Moonlight Haze have released four studio albums so far. The latest – ‘Beyond’ – came out in May 2025. One year later, the band led by exceptional vocalist Chiara Tricarico (ex-Temperance, ex-Teodasia) are releasing the six-track EP ‘Interstellar Madness’. The EP was produced by none other than Sascha Paeth (Avantasia, Angra, Kamelot, Edguy). Simone Mularoni at Domination Studio (Wind Rose, Vision Divine, Twilight Force) was responsible for mixing and mastering. The perfect conditions, then, for another masterpiece.
Strings introduce ‘Moonlight Legion’. Then the rhythm section takes over, before Chiara Tricarico launches into her beguiling vocals – powerful yet sensual. On ‘Lost In Moonlit Symphonies’, the Italians pick up the pace. This is even more Power Metal than before, with the synth strings adding plenty of epic flair. First, the track ‘We Are Fire’ is sung by a harsh male choir. Then the singer attempts to seduce us with her vocals. Overall, the song is somewhat calmer. It only becomes powerful when the ‘We Are Fire’ chorus kicks in. After a brief, quiet intro, “Shine” is a rock-oriented track that reminds me a little of Chiara’s earlier days with Temperance, vocally speaking. Though it’s a bit less frantic and features a powerful voice. The title track “Interstellar Madness” is also the longest on the EP. Here, too, we first hear a quiet and rhythmic introduction. But then Moonlight Haze really get going, with plenty of bombast but also plenty of power coming from the speakers. Chiara soars into the high soprano range, with a slight touch of opera aria. But she pushes her vocal range all the way down into the lower register. A track with a magnificent guitar solo and a slight progressive touch. “Interstellar Madness: Finale” is an instrumental outro, characterised by strings and rhythmic drums.
Even though ‘Interstellar Madness’ is ‘just’ an EP with a running time of just over twenty-one minutes, Moonlight Haze have established themselves as leaders in the symphonic Power Metal scene. With confidence, Chiara Tricarico and her bandmates are setting standards against which other bands in the genre must measure themselves.
