Sins of Shadows
The Last Frontier
Out: 5th May 2026
Playing time: 37:17

French Heavy Metal band Sins of Shadows, formed in 2014, will release their third studio album, ‘The Last Frontier’, in May, featuring Greek vocalist Tasos Lazaris.

More direct and heavier than its predecessors, the album reflects the band’s evolution toward a sharper, more dynamic, yet still melodic sound, but with a renewed sense of urgency.

Musically, the band has its roots in the NWOBHM (Iron Maiden, Saxon). However, there are also influences from Progressive or Power Metal (Symphony X, Iced Earth) and from heavier bands such as Megadeth or Testament.

‘The Void’ kicks off without any introduction. The French band hit the ground running straight away. (Guest) (?) vocalist Tasos Lazaris does a brilliant job. But guitarist Nicolas Jacon also shines. And things move swiftly on with ‘The Last Frontier’, driven by guitar and drums. ‘Walls Of Past’ ups the tempo even further. On ‘Tell Me Why’, the tempo is slowed down just a tiny bit. Once again, the song is essentially characterised by guitar and vocals, whilst drums and bass provide a powerful, rhythmic foundation. Without, however, neglecting the melodic aspect. ‘Rise Again’ really lets rip too, thanks in particular to the lightning-fast fingers of Nicolas Jacon. Why a contemplative interlude in the middle of the album is labelled ‘Prologue’ is beyond me. Perhaps it is ‘only’ the introduction to the subsequent Metal anthem ‘As Darkness Falls’. And ‘The End Of The Road’ also sounds very anthemic. The instrumental closing track ‘One Last Journey’, just under two minutes long, starts off ballad-like and ends as an anthem.

Right up until the interlude, Sins of Shadows maintain a fast pace on ‘The Last Frontier’. The album then concludes with hymns. In doing so, the musicians demonstrate that they are not only capable of – or willing to – go full throttle. This two-part structure builds a musical arc of tension. So we can take the press release at its word that this is the heaviest album in the band’s history to date. And in my opinion, it is extremely successful. Tasos Lazaris enhances the instrumentalists’ performance with his vocals.
