The trio Megalith Levitation comes from one of the easternmost corners of Europe. Their hometown is Chelyabinsk, a large city at the Ural Mountains, Russia’s seventh largest city. We’ll keep quiet about the strange names in the line-up. They are probably the three first letters of their names (as usual in Russia: first name, patronymic, surname – NPS ). The band photo is also not very informative. Three guys hidden under black cassocks. So the main focus should be on the music. “Void Psalms” is the second album of the Russian Doomers. Let’s have a listen to the lysergic sound worlds (band quote).

It booms deep from the speakers. Turn it up and feel the bass. That is already the motto of “Phantasmagoric Journey”. More than thirteen minutes of Funeral Doom with hypnotic vocals. The guitar riffs sound heavily distorted. And these are the basis of the sound. Thirteen minutes? And that’s not even the longest song on the album. The double track “Temple of Silence / Pillars of Creation” scratches a hair’s breadth on the twenty minutes. All songs are especially impressive at high volume. A PA system with a subwoofer or headphones with very good bass reproduction are the basis for listening pleasure. Especially because the sound pours out of the speakers like viscous lava over the entire playing time. The last song, “Last Vision”, on the other hand, is only eight minutes short.

You have to listen carefully to “Void Psalms”. Even the guitar solos are strongly slowed down, gloomy and distorted. You think you can hear the ghosts and gnomes stomping through the Ural Mountains. Just the right soundtrack for the ever shorter and darker days of the winter half-year. A few years ago, I couldn’t do much with this kind of music. But now I’m really into this melancholic sound.
