Wardress were founded in 1983. And had dedicated themselves to NWOBHM. Three years later, it was already over again. During this time, however, they left hardly any traces. No album, no single, not even a demo. It wasn’t until 2018 that the band was re-formed. Guitarist Gor Moore and singer Erich Eysn decided to record rediscovered original song material. A year later, the debut album “Dress For War” was released, with old and new songs. The band used the restrictions because of COVID for the production of the follow-up “Metal Till The End”.

Already with the opener “Berserk” you can hear all the Metal power. Fat double bass, heavy riffs and occasionally interspersed thrash elements. The title track “Metal Til The End” impresses with double guitar lines. And insane twin-guitar solos. But hard riffing dominates here too. Erich Eysn’s powerful vocals fit the sound wonderfully. A true riff monster follows with “Motorlust”. It is certainly not easy to cover an Ozzy Osbourne song. Especially because his songs belong to the world cultural heritage of Metal. But that’s exactly what “Mr. Crowley” does brilliantly. A deep bow to the “Prince of Darkness” and the absolute highlight of the album. The band-titled “Wardress” spreads the good mood of Classic Heavy Metal. Here, too, the band members are driven by powerful drums. Once again there is a grandiose guitar solo to the ears. A great Metal hymn follows with “Serpents Kiss”. Here, there is no merciless power. Instead, a lot of emphasis is placed on melodies in the midtempo range. Therefore, “Serves You Right” moves back into high-speed realms. “Metal Melodies” lives up to its title. This is Melodic Heavy Metal in its purest form. And obviously a live recording.

“All killer, no filler”. “Metal Till The End” comes damn close to this slogan. There is not a single dispensable song here. All seven of their own songs as well as the congenial Ozzy cover are totally convincing. It makes you wonder why these guys took such an extremely long hiatus.
