Irish post punk act, Movment, drops new single and music video of ” Everything Will Be Clear”
Everything Will Be Clear is the latest single from the album Transformation by Movment. The Single is available on Bandcamp and all digital streaming. The single EVERYTHING WILL BE CLEAR was recorded in End of Light Studios, Mullingar, Ireland & mixed at Miloco, London and mastered by Jerome Schmitt at The Airlab.
Movment are a post-punk alternative indie rock band. Movment are more dark than light, more strong than weak, more direct. Movment make observations on life and living. They mean what they say. There is a divergence in society. The new album Transformation, due in December 2021, explores this situation. We are bombarded with information, opinions, viewpoints, and words. We drown in ideas, in solutions, in propaganda. There needs to be a TRANSFORMATION from where we are now. It explores What We Are. Movment have been through it before. They examine What Way Should It Be. Their time is NOW! There is nothing we cannot do!
We talked with the band about their musical influences, recording process, among other curiosities. Check out the interview:
Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
MK: We have been making music together for a long time. Our first band, Raw Novembre, was put together with some friends and we went on to release 3 albums and some singles and EPs
KK: We have always written songs together and when Raw Novembre finished, and even before that, we had been writing and recording as MOVMENT. The name movment comes from a group of people with the same ideas, like a political movement, but not necessarily so. It could be a social movement, or artistic movement. We would like to connect with people with our music. We have been using the name MOVMENT for a long time. We liked the idea of music as a movement.
Why did you want to play this genre?
MK: We are music fans so the music we play has been influenced by the bands we listen to. We have similar tastes in music – rock, metal, indie, punk, post punk, etc.
KK: I really like Riffs, and deep bass. So that has influenced our sound. We are inspired by other bands, from a variety of different genres. There is so much music out there to listen to!
Did you know each other before the band was formed?
MK: We are brothers. So, we started playing together as soon as we got instruments. I got a drum kit and Kevin got a bass and we took it from there.
KK: We moved on to guitar and vocals in our first band. I like synths too. I suppose there is a special relationship when playing music with a sibling. There is an understanding and connection that can be hard to describe.
Each band member’s favourite band?
MK: I like New Model Army, Iron Maiden and Nine Inch Nails, but there are lots of other bands that I listen to.
KK: I try to listen to all types of music, some new, some old. I’m listening to Amyl & The Sniffers, The Stranglers, and Gojira at the moment. But there are many bands I have liked over the years, Joy Division, At The Drive-In, Sonic Youth, Black Sabbath – too many to mention.
Who or what inspires you to write songs?
MK: We have always jammed together, and usually have lots of pieces of music. We write music about life and living and what we see around us. Things that are important to us. Writing songs is just a key part of our lives now.
KK: Our music tends to be dark, and that is because most of the music we listen to is dark. Some of our music is optimistic. We comment on what we see in life. We mostly start with music, and we add lyrics later. A song is born when both the lyrics and music click together. We regularly jam with bass and drums or guitar and drums and expand on the ideas. I have been using electronics and synths more in the last few years.
Can you talk a little about the latest release? How was the recording process?
MK: We had been writing songs for our album Transformation since 2017. I think we had about 25 songs and ideas initially and this was narrowed down to 16 songs. We then recorded 10 of those songs in our own home studio. Mixing and Mastering were completed in London.
KK: Yeah, we have an excellent writing studio at the moment. I think it allows us to get our ideas and sounds down. And the magic of mixing and mastering then brings those songs to life. But with modern home studios it is much easier to record songs at home and to a high standard. It allows ideas to be developed, so the final mixes are closer to what we wanted. We prefer to write and record in our own studio. I’m not sure I could write songs to a stopwatch. Some songs evolve quickly while others take time. It is easier to do this on our
own time and at home.
Where was your last gig?
MK: We played a gig last December (2021). It was for a New Year’s Eve special. We played 5 songs, and since we hadn’t played in a while it was a good experience.
KK: We hadn’t played for a number of years because of COVID but we are rehearsing at present and we will probably play some gigs and festivals in Ireland this Summer.
Where would you like to act? (play a gig?)
MK: Do you mean play? We will probably only play in Ireland for now, but if opportunities arise, we could play dates in the UK or Europe.
KK: We will see how things go. We are open to playing some international dates. So, if it is possible, but probably not before the Autumn.
Whom would you like to feature with?
MK: We don’t really mind who we play with, but it makes sense to play with bands in a similar genre to us.
KK: Festivals tend to be diverse, so we are open to playing most of those. I suppose at festivals you can play alongside bands from different genres. There are some festivals that would probably suit us. It would be great to be playing a festival with bands like Rage Against The Machine, Pixies, Iron Maiden, Gojira…
Any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
MK: Probably in the beginning, but once you play lots of gigs then that is no longer an issue
KK: When you first start playing, you might be nervous, or even go blank. But in time this will disappear. I remember the day and the gig when this disappeared completely. It is always best to be well rehearsed. But some bands like to improvise. So I suppose it depends. But lots of rehearsal will definitely help with stage fright. When you know your songs backwards, then you can enjoy the gig more…
What bands have inspired you the most?
MK: A band we admired in the early days was Fugazi. It was their DIY ethic, and fair prices for their CDs and gigs. As well as their music.
KK: Some bands were inspiring, mostly if they had their own sound and were unique. Nine Inch Nails are a big influence, and the Jesus and Mary Chain, and The Jesus Lizard. I listen to a diverse range of music, from Smashing Pumpkins to Depeche Mode, Vox Low, and Sparklehorse. I am also a very big fan of the Wipers, especially the first 3 albums.
What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
MK: I can’t recall anything beyond looking for albums to be signed
KK: We just tend to chat with fans about music. I haven’t been asked for anything strange so far.
What do you think of your fans?
MK: We have great reverence for anyone that takes the time to listen our music. We are music fans ourselves. So, we know what it is like to enjoy the bands we like.
KK: Yeah, we understand how much music can mean to them. It is an honour for us to have people that like our music and get a kick out of it.

MK: We are still promoting our album Transformation. And we will have news on this shortly.
KK: Yes, our album has been well received in many countries, and we will be expanding our promotion in the near future with an exciting new partnership.
MK: We are also writing a new album and are making a lot of progress on this. We have about 22 songs/ideas already, and we are working on those.
KK: It is possible that the writing of the new album could be completed by the end of Summer, and if so, it might be possible to have it released before the end of 2022. I hope so!
