Blessed Black
Seasons Vol. 2
Out: April 28th, 2024
Playing time: 14:41

What was foreshadowed a year ago with “Seasons: Vol. 1” is now a reality. The successor “Seasons Vol. 2” is on its way. Blessed Black from Cincinnati (Ohio) were already able to impress with their predecessor. That naturally made me curious. However, my expectations are now very high. Will the band be able to impress me again?

“Asunder” is classic Epic Doom Metal. The instrumental section is full of power and Joshua Murphy’s vocals sound strong. There is a great guitar solo at the end. “Serpentine Sisters” then begins quietly, with clean guitars. The drumming is accentuated. But of course the guitars roar later on. “Solve et Coagula” is obviously a Latin phrase meaning “to dissolve and unite”. And probably comes from the field of alchemy. The song starts very darkly. After a kind of fade in, you hear powerful Heavy Doom. The Hammond in the background is also there again, as it was on the previous EP. Singer and guitarist Joshua Murphy fires off a guitar solo one last time.

“Seasons Vol. 2” is one minute shorter. But the EP can easily maintain the level of its predecessor. I hope that there will be two more follow-up EPs. Because if “Seasons” refers to the seasons, then it should actually go on until Volume 4. Although, a full-length album would also be nice.
