Dreamerie: The Prelude

FlowerLeaf are a Brazilian-German collaboration dedicated to Melodic Metal. The band was founded in 2017 and their debut album “Stronger” was released one year later. Apart from that, there is hardly anything to report, except for various single releases. It was only five years later, in August of this year, that the EP “Dreamerie: The Prelude” followed. The addition “Prelude” (introduction, opening) suggests that further releases are planned. Even though the line-up list in the press release only includes three names, the band photo shows four musicians. Probably the fourth man is guitarist Mohamed Haddar (source: Encyclopaedia Metallum).
“A Dream Lullaby” is a one-minute intro. One of the better kinds. You can enjoy the enchanting voice of Vivs Takahashi for the first time. “Stargazers” is then pure Symphonic Metal. The guitars are banging, the drums are booming, there are orchestral accompaniments and epic choruses. Vivs sings in soprano but avoids the very high notes. Which results in a pleasant listening experience. In addition, there is a great guitar solo to be heard. Also, on “Fireflies”, guitar, bass and drums provide a clearly Metallic sound, this time in the midtempo range, with catchy melodies. Experimental sounds then underpin “Look Out The Window”, first a spoken word passage, later the calm ballad-like vocals. “The Sound of Time” is a piano ballad. Later strings are added. And the concentrated power of the rhythm section, but without leaving the ballad realm. Then “The Storm” is of a completely different quality. Here they rock hard again. With another good guitar solo. The outro “Pouring Rain” tells another story, accompanied by acoustic guitar and thunder.
On “Dreamerie: The Prelude”, light and shadow are close to each other. Some good songs, but in my opinion too many spoken words for an EP with less than thirty minutes playing time. This should really be reserved for a full-length (concept) album. Let’s see what else we will hear from FlowerLeaf in the future.
