It’s hard to believe. Firewind has been around for twenty years now, the brainchild of guitar wizard Gus G. aka Konstantinos Karamitroudis (Κωνσταντίνος Καραμητρούδης). And over all that time, it was not only the master’s brilliant guitar playing that could inspire, but also the performance of the respective singers. Since 2020, Herbie Langhans from Lower Saxony has had a strong grip on the microphone. So of course, he was also on stage at the anniversary concert in the Principal Club Theatre (Thessaloníki). The recording of this show from 2022 can now be enjoyed on CD and Blu-ray.
The focus of the song selection is clearly on the 2020 album “Firewind”. Six songs alone are from this album, if I haven’t lost count. But the older stuff is presented as well. There was something from almost every album on this evening. The quality of the audio files is very good. I also watched some of the videos of the show on YouTube. The picture quality keeps what the sound quality already promised. The reactions of the fans were also captured, so there was a lot of live feeling while listening and watching. I think to talk about the quality of the band and musicians would be carrying owls to Athens. Guitar genius Gus G. shines again and again with ingenious solos. Apart from that, he mostly plays in line with the song. And thus leaves enough room for his bandmates to shine themselves. First and foremost, of course, singer Herbie Langhans, who sovereignly intones the songs from all creative periods of the band. The performances of drummer Jo Nunez and bassist Petros Christo are also above average. One can be very curious about the collection of BD and CDs. Actually a must-buy for every Heavy Metal fan.
