Lodestar are a Doom/Gothic Metal duo from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada). Founded in 2020, apparently as a studio-only project. In this short time, they have released countless singles, an EP and three full albums. Most recently “Polaris” in November 2023, so the two are extremely productive.

“Shooting Star” starts off with industrial sounds. But soon you can hear lower tuned guitars, as is usual in the Doom genre. Kate Glock also sings lower than many of her female comrades-in-arms on the microphone. Well-made Epic Doom. Firstly, Kate lets off steam with her synths on “Never Die”. But fortunately, only briefly. Later, the guitar riffs and drums dominate again, both played by duo partner Jensen Rodolfo. And very skilfully. The tempo is increased slightly on “Save Me From Fate”. Nevertheless, the sound is quite calm. And so, it continues, with mid-tempo Doom. You can hear this in “In This Life”, “In Your Shadow” or “Distance To Your Light”. Although all the songs are built on the same basic principle, they are nevertheless varied. This is also proven by “Light Of My Life”, which has ballad-like tendencies. Fifty-five minutes of high-quality Epic Doom. That is what is offered on “Polaris”. Kate Glock’s beguiling vocals are accompanied by Jensen Rodolfo’s instrumentation. And he masters all the instruments he plays equally well. He also repeatedly delivers good guitar solos. Although all the songs are in the mid-tempo range, the duo shines with varied songwriting. So, you never get bored listening to them.
