The country has just ten million inhabitants. But a great variety and diversity of Rock and Metal bands. Not to mention pop groups like Abba or Roxette. We are talking about Sweden. And new bands are being formed all the time. Perpetual Etude are the brainchild of Magnus Mild (Air Raid). Formed in 2019, with the aim of bringing back the spirit of 80s Metal. So, he teamed up with other well-known Swedish musicians And the quintet started song writing. In October, the debut album “Now Is The Time” was released. Worldwide distribution is organised by the Stockholm label Black Lodge Records.

“I’ve Got The Power” was already released as a single and provided a foretaste of the album sound. Nomen est Omen, one might say. The Swedes really get going right at the beginning. Mastermind Magnus Mild contributes fine guitar solos. But always fitting to the song, without superfluous frigging. The interplay between guitar and keyboard is perfect. A word about singer Kristian Fyhr: Excellent! Also “Show Me” is already available as a single. As far as I know, it’s the band’s first single. A bit slower, but a great stadium anthem. And with “Straight Through The Heart” another one follows right after it. On the other hand, “Once We Were One” is much heavier again. It picks up where the opening song left off. Also “Hell Fire Burn” invites the willing listener to headbang. Heavy, fast riffs, ingenious solos. And a refrain that tempts you to sing along. The title track “Now Is The Time” is a real rock stomper. For me the highlight of the album. Also, with a sing-along chorus. And with full power it goes towards the end. Whether with the rock anthem “Sail Away” or the straightforward rock song “Our Love”.

Certainly, “Now Is The Time” offers no ground-breaking developments. But that was probably not the intention of Perpetual Etude. Instead, they indulge in the memories of the glorious 80s. And they bring this sound across authentically. Hit after hit is fired off here. There is no poor song, only Hard Rock, which should at least put a smile on the listener’s face. Actually, every song deserves to be put on the playlist of Rock radio stations.
